LAST year they dazzled all comers with a fittingly colourful performance of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and now the Newcastle West Musical Society is preparing to do it all again.
The popular amateur group are currently putting the finishing touches to their new production, The Fiddler on the Roof, which will debut at the Knockaderry community hall on Friday, November 1.
Susan Browne of the Newcastle West Musical Society said that the success of last year’s performances have helped attract new members of all ages, and have encouraged them to put on an even bigger show in 2013.
“We’ve a bigger cast this year - we’ve pushed it up to 40. We’re trying to open it out to all of West Limerick, and we’ve people from Abbeyfeale, Rathkeale, Dromcollogher, Ballingarry, Cappagh. We’re bringing in a lot of children too, which is important.”
Performers for the latest show were cast in May and have been busily rehearsing the various song and dance numbers since August. A miniature army of volunteers have recently ramped up work on set design, costumes and the countless other minor tasks that need to be completed ahead of opening night.
The production will be performed each Friday and Sunday night for three weeks beginning on November 1. The production will be officially launched at an event next Thursday night, October 24.
Tickets for each performance can be purchased at the door, priced at €15 for adults and €7 for children. Tickets can also be purchased in advance from any member of the musical society. For more, see the society’s Facebook page.
