Adam Howell, who composed the music and lyrics for the show, said the cast of 22 are “nervous and excited” ahead of its first Irish showing in the Lime Tree theatre from July 17.

The production, which was staged in Derby last year, has been lauded by the McCourt family, who will be returning to Limerick from the States for this reworked production.

“If we can do it in Limerick, we can do it anywhere.. It’s hard to say what kind of reaction we’ll get; we didn’t know what kind of reaction we’d get in Derby either,” he told the Limerick Leader.

He first read the book when he was 15 and said it has been a part of his life ever since.

Actress Sarah Ayrton accompanied him on her first three-day visit to Limerick this week ahead of the show. “It’s a great challenge. I’m quite nervous about playing Angela in Limerick, and very honoured to get such a great role,” she said.
