The ever-popular Fantasy Premier League season kicks off next week and the Limerick Leader is delighted to get in on the fun
THINK you know your stuff about soccer? Think you’re the most knowledgable soccer person in Limerick?
Well now you can put it to the test. With the English Premiership season now just less than two weeks away, the Limerick Leader is delighted to launch its own Private League in the hugely popular Fantasy Premier League. All our loyal readers and friends are invited to join.
A large number of Limerick people are already among the two million players worldwide taking part in leagues. But now they can enter this Limerick league along with whatever other mini leagues they’re already involved in with work colleagues or friends.
With fantastic prizes on offer for the top three at the end of the season - don’t miss next week’s Leader for full details about what’s up for grabs – this competition promises to capture the imagination of the sports-mad Limerick public.
Entering it couldn’t be easier! All you have to do is log on to the Fantasy Premier League website, pick your squad of 15 players and join the Limerick Leader league by entering the code printed below. And the best part is - it’s free to join.
The rules are very simple - you are given a budget of £100m and must pick two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards.
Each player is priced according to their ability - Wayne Rooney is £12m while Norwich’s Zac Whitbread is £4m - and they earn points for their performances on the field.
A player gets two points for playing 60 minutes or more (one point for 30 minutes or less) and points are awarded for goals scored, assists, clean sheets and there is also bonus point system for the best three players in a game.
Points are deducted for red and yellow cards and own goals. Your selected captain each week earns you double points while you can also make transfers over the course of the season.
You are allowed one ‘free’ transfer per week but if you make more than one you are deducted four points. There is also a wild card system where, once a season, you can make as many transfers as you want without any penalty.
“It’s a wonderful game,” says Steven Miller, sports editor of the Limerick Leader. “It’s very easy to play and we’re delighted to launch this league for our Limerick Leader readers. I think it will bring the slagging and banter to a whole new level in the pubs and dressing rooms around the county.
“In many ways it’s better than the Premiership itself - it makes games between Bolton and QPR interesting! Every goal, every pass and every card is important and you’d be amazed at how even the slightest event in a match can have a bearing on your team.” Every week we will print the latest leaderboards along with all the news on who’s making ground, who’s losing their way and what Limerick sports stars are in the mix.
We hope you join us because, as Jamie Redknapp might say, it’s going to be a top, top competition.
All you have to do is log on to http://fantasy.premierleague.com and enter the code 761352-191937.
Prize details will be announced next week.
