Munsters' thump Shannon in Munster Senior Cup

YOUNG Munster thumped old rivals Shannon 50-3 at Clifford Park this Saturday to advance to the semi-finals of this season’s Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup.

Last season’s finalists Young Munster ran in eight tries against their Limerick rivals to set up a last four clash with surprise packets Cashel.

Munsters’ laid the foundation for this win in the opening half when the Greenfields side built a substantial 26-3 interval lead.

Darren Ryan scored two tries for Gearoid Prendergast’s Young Munster AIL Division 1A side, while Ger Slattery, Colm Skehan, Alan Tynan, Rob Guerin, Daniel Walsh and Jake Fehilly also dotted down.

Tynan kicked three conversions, while Paul Downes added two. Ronan McKenna replied with a penalty for Shannon in the opening half.

The scheduled second round meeting of Old Crescent and Highfield in Woodleigh Park was postponed.

There was only one game played in the Cyril Fitzgerald Plate which resulted in Garryowen defeating Bruff 33-0 at Kilballyowen Park.

The UL-Bohemian and Thomond tie in the same competition was postponed.
