SHANNON’S Paddy Butler will make his first start of the season for tabletoppers Munster in this Friday night’s RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Edinburgh at Murrayfield (7.30pm).
Munster coach Tony McGahan is giving youth its fling for the visit to the Scottish capital with 12 members of his match day squad aged 24 or under. Twenty year-old Butler has been included in the back-row in place of James Coughlan who is ruled out with a neck injury.
Butler is one of ten changes Tony McGahan makes to the starting XV from last Friday night’s win over the Cardiff Blues with Coughlan just the one forced change. There are two positional switches. Johne Murphy moves to the right wing in place of Doug Howlett, who is being rested, and Scott Deasy, a replacement in Cadiff coming, into the full-back slot occupied by Murphy last time out. Tommy O’Donnell moves to the blindside to accommodate the return of Niall Ronan, that switch a recognition of the rich vein of form O’Donnell is enjoying.
Fellow back-row forward Peter O’Mahony, who had captained the side earlier this season, is listed among the replacements whose average age is just over 22.
Lock Mick O’Driscoll, who will win his 192nd cap on Friday, skippers the side in O’Mahony’s absence.
