YOUNG out-half Jamie Gavin played a key role for Garryowen on Saturday as the ‘light blues’ came away from Castle Avenue with a prized 23-13 Division 1A win over Clontarf.
Former ‘Tarf captain Barry O’Mahony, now back in light blue, was hoping to put one over on the hosts, tweeting beforehand about coming ‘back to the Bull Ring for the first time’.
Visitors Garryowen built a useful 6-0 lead with a drop goal and penalty from Gavin before ‘Tarf full-back Richie Lane levelled matters early in the second half.
The decisive score came from centre Conan Doyle, who bagged a crucial try try for the visitors.
Despite suffering a sin-binning, Tom Tierney’s men remained in control with Corey Hircock adding a second converted try and Gavin a neatly-struck drop.
