HOLDERS Crescent College Comprehensive experienced the full gamut of emotion before their absorbing SEAT Munster Schools Senior Cup quarter-final clash with PBC, of Cork, ended in a thrilling 21-21 draw at Rosbrien this Wednesday.

Cup favourites Crescent looked in real danger of suffering a shock exit from the competition when trailing 16-7 early in the second half.

However, the Dooradoyle side showed terrific composure and resolve to lead 21-16 deep in injury time.

But the drama wasn’t over yet. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Pres’ crossed for a dramatic try through winger Cian Collins which tied the scores at 21-21.

The Crescent faithful had their hearts in their mouths as PBC scrum-half John Poland lined up the difficult conversion. However, Poland’s attempt, kicked into the teeth of a strong wind , flew narrowly wide.

The drama wasn’t over yet, however. Two minutes later, Crescent out-half Fionn McGibney had the chance to win it for his side. However, his penalty attempt from an acute angle wide out on the right flew narrowly wide.

A draw was perhaps the fairest result and the sides will meet again in the replay at a Cork venue, to be confirmed, most likely on this Sunday, March 2.

Crescent, who trailed 7-13 at half-time had tries from excellent centre JJ O’Neill, flying winger Calvin Nash and scrum-half Gary Fitzgerald. Out-half McGibney added three conversions, including one stunning effort in the opening half.
