A LIMERICK secondary school was the target of unwanted attention this week after rumours spread of an alleged assault on two members of staff.

According to reports on social media sites, the principal of the school was struck by the student.

A parent who contacted the Limerick Leader out of concern over the rumours said that discussions locally suggested that a student “lashed out” at the principal and kicked the vice-principal on the shin.

“They is a lot of talk about it and it is supposedly mentioned on Facebook and Twitter,” she said.

“The student is said to have struck the principal and then kicked the vice-principal on leaving the office.”

However, according to sources close to the school, the rumours are unfounded and “no incident took place”.

When contacted, the school principal declined to comment.
