Limerick Soccer - Hospital dump Fairview out of Munster Junior
Pat Sheehan reports on the Limerick District teams in the opening round of the Munster Junior Cup where the biggest shock was Hospital’s 4-3 win over Fairview Rangers.
Hospital 4 Fairview Rgs 3
As predicted in our midweek preview, Hospital indeed were capable of causing an upset and they delivered on that ability when they defeated Fairview Rgs in the First round of the Munster Junior Cup at Elton on Sunday morning.
This was no fluke as Hospital matched the Premier side throughout and their reward is a home tie against Moyross in Round Two.
Shaun O’Brien put Hospital in front but Colin Scanlon soon had the sides back on level terms.
Top scorer Barry Ryan and O’Brien added further goals for the home side and while Mark McGrath pulled on back for Fairview, O’Brien completed his hat trick for a 4-2 advantage for Hospital.
Mark McGrath scored another to put just one between the sides but Hospital held out for a famous victory

As the scoreline suggests Premier side Corbally were much too good for Aisling B in this tie. A couple of early goals killed of the Aisling challenge and Corbally piled on the agony with goals from Barry Hartnett (3), Ben Savage (2), Darren Hanley, Ian Dunworth, Ken Nealon and Darren O’Sullivan.

A headed goal from Dave Todd separated the sides when Kilmallock visited a determined Glenview side.
The Premier side were made fight hard for success and they did just enough to scrape through.

Carew Park 4 Granville Rgs 2
Premier League leaders were forced to dig deep to see off the challenge of Granville Rgs in the Munster Junior Cup on Sunday morning.
The Div 1A side matched their more vaunted opponents for much of the game and it was only in the last quarter with the help of a Jonathon Grant hat trick that the home side pulled away.
Cian Byrnes put Granville ahead but a superb volley from Pat Boyle levelled the tie.
Byrnes with a brilliant header restored Granville’s lead but an error in midfield paved the way for Jon Grant to equalise.
Jon Somers tilted the tie Carew’s way in the second half and a cnother couple from Jonathon Grant sealed it despite Ken O’Donoghue’s late consolation for Granville.

Played on Saturday evening Aisling as expected saw off Cappamore winning 4-1. David Njuki, Evan O’Neil and a brace from Chumkwa Manjor accounted for the winning goals.

Pike had a much easier run than they expected when they beat Regional 5-0 at the Pike Club on Sunday afternoon. Two gifted goals were gratefully tucked away by Alan Barry within ten minutes and the Irish International striker went on to complete his hat trick. Paul Doona and Keith Hartnett were also on the mark for the winners. A minutes silence was observed before the game in memory of former Hyde men Pat Kiely and Tony Kelleher and the home side eased to victory in a 4-0 win. Stephen Fitzmaurice claimed a hat trick with Robert Griffin also on target.
Weston Villa 2 Newport 4
Weston Villa hosted Newport in Cals Park but came out the wrong side of a 4-2 result.
Keith O’Donoghue and Philip Moore were on target for the home side but goals from Dean Lenihan (2), Brian O’Sullivan and Sean O’Brien secured the win.
Fairview B 3 Kennedy Park 3
Thomas Hehir scored twice along with one from David Cassidy for Fairview but goals from Dave Campbell, Stephen Calvert and Eddie Shine earned Kennedy Park a 3-3 draw and after a marathon penalty shoot out Kennedy Park advanced 9-8.
Croom Utd 3 Wembley Rvs 4
An extra time goal from Eoin O’Sullivan saved the blushes of Premier side Wembley Rvs as they overcame Croom Utd 4-3 after extra time.
The Div 4 side led 3-2 with a couple of minutes remaining when a penalty from Paul McCormack sent the tie to extra time.
Vinny Lawlor put Croom in front but a Paul McCormack penalty levelled. Lawlor restored Croom’s lead but Andy Murphy equalised. Wembley lost their keeper to a red card and from the resultant penalty kick Shane Fitzgerald put Croom back in front.
Paul McCormack’s second penalty levelled the tie and in extra time Eoin O’Sullivan hit the winner.

As expected Geraldines made it through to Round two with a comfortable 4-1 win at home to Bruff. Wayne Lee put ‘Dines in front and George Daffy added a second before Sean Kelly reduced the deficit. Derek Hannon and Bobby Tier ensured ‘Dines victory with second half strikes.
