Countdown to season opener for Limerick FC
LIMERICK FC kick-off the 2012 season this Friday night in Jackman Park with the weight of expectation on their shoulders.
Such is the strength of the Super Blues squad that they are virtually unbackable to be crowned Division One champions in the Airtricity League.
Bizarrely, as they set out on the 28-game league, Limerick are the hottest of 1/6 favourites with the bookmakers to finally return to the top flight of Irish senior soccer.
A string of top class signings have confidence soaring within the Limerick camp but manager Pat Scully is aware that they must get a positive start to copper fasten that confidence.
“We were pleased with the pre-season over all,” he said.
Limerick completed their preparations with a 1-1 draw against Premier Division side Drogheda Utd last Saturday with Rory Gaffeney scoring the Limerick goal.
“We have a fully fit squad to choose from and it’s also nice to start the season at home for the first time in three years, but it’s all about what we do on Friday that counts,” said Scully.
Providing the opposition on Friday night (7.45) are Donegal side, Finn Harps.
“We have had Harps watched and there a decent team with some good players,” remarked Scully.
“We have a very strong team and a good squad and all the lads are 100% determined to get off to a good start. We know it will be a hard game, but the players will be ready for that,” he said.
While Scully reports a fully fit squad it is unsure if former international striker Dominic Foley is in line for a debut.
