Twenty three year old Gaffney was a key player in helping Limerick FC secure promotion back to the Premier Division of the Airtricity League next season.

Gaffney beat off stiff competition from the Waterford United duo of Gary Dempsey and Sean Maguire to claim the First Division Player of the Year award.

The midfielder was one of five Limerick FC players to be included in the First Division Team of the Year.

Gaffney was joined in the side by team mates Pat Purcell, Shane Tracy, Joe Gamble and Stephen Bradley. The side also included three Waterford United players, along with two from Longford and one from Athlone Town.

Mark Quigley, of Sligo Rovers, won the Premier Division Player of the Year Award.
