Limerick Soccer - Wembley drop Premier points
Pat Sheehan rounds up the LDMC league action from the weekend.
Fairview Rgs 2 Wembley Rvs 2
Wembley Rvs quest for points in the battle to avoid the drop looked promising when they led Fairview Rgs by two goals with five minutes remaining. However the home side fought back to snatch a point with two late goals. Seamus Mulcahy and Diarmuid O’Callaghan had Wembley in the driving seat but when Dermot Finnan sprung a few of his youngsters from the bench the tide turned. Eddie Byrnes pulled one back and ironically, Glen O’Connor, a grandson of Wembley stalwart Timmy O’Connor scored the equaliser.
In Div 1A two late goals from Dan O’Flynn and Ollie Kenny gave Granville a 2-1 win over Dromore Celtic.
It was a similar story in Portland as Frank Hogan’s goal had Pike in front going into the last ten minutes when Des Quinlivan struck a double for the home side.
Ger Johnson scored twice for Moyross against Ballynanty Rvs but scores from Frank Walsh (2) and Jason Sheehan gave the visitors the spoils.
Shannon Town went down 4-1 at home to Mungret Reg whose scores came from Barry Danagher (2), Ger Burke and Des O’Donoghue.
In Div 1B Hospital beat Prospect Priory 3-2 courtesy of Keith O’Connor, Barry Ryan and Ken O’Loughlin while Bruff Utd also scored three through Tony Burke (2) and Jason Lenihan but opponents Charleville netted six to win.
Hyde Rgs and Murroe played out a scoreless draw while Kennedy Park conceded seven to Knockainey with scores from Nigel Finch (3), John Cosgrove (2), Padraig Barron and Nick Hayes.
Aisling Annacotty charge ahead following a 2-0 win over Holycross in Div 2A; Phil Maher netted both. Bob Harty (3) and Lee Carey scored for St Pats in a 4-2 win over Cappamore for whom Dave Madden and James Bradshaw replied.
Barry O’Grady was scorer in chief with five against Kilmallock for Regional in an 8-0 win. Shane O’Donoghue scored two and Mark McManus the last.
Weston Villa beat Summerville Rvs B 3-1 with scores from Paul O’Donoghue, Jason Croker and Lee Somers while Bartek Baranski replied and in Div 2B Caledonians had a fine win over Hill Celtic thanks to a Ryan Keane goal. Coonagh Utd beat Mungret Reg 3-2 with goals from David Coffey, Shane Bennis and Ralph Marsh.
In Div 3B Moyross B won 3-2 at home to Shelbourne B for whom John Frawley and Dave O’Mahoney scored.
Murroe edged out Athlunkard Villa with goals from Barry Duggan and Jack Donnelly; Richie Fox replied while Robbie Punch scored the only goal of the game as Knockainey beat Meanus.
In the Youth Div One League congratulations are in order to Mungret Regional who picked up their first points of the season in a 2-2 draw at Shannon Town. John McManus and Cian Guinee were on the mark for a Mungret side who deserve every break they get.
Despite conceding 83 goals in 11 outings, this bunch of lads turn out every weekend, when the easy thing to do would be to quit. They could teach many of us a lesson or two on sportsmanship.
