LIMERICK FC bounced back to winning ways in the EA Sports Cup on Monday afternoon when they beat Munster rivals Cork City 3-0 in Jackman Park.

After the massive disappointment of losing to Longford Town 2-1 on Friday night - their second league defeat of the season - Limerick needed a pick-me-up and it arrived at the first available opportunity.

They took the lead after just a minute when debutante Cian Collins beat the offside trap and fired past Kevin Burns in the City goal. Unfortunately for Collins his debut would last only 35 minutes as he was forced off with injury. But it didn’t unnerve the home side and they doubled their advantage seven minutes after the break when Sean Brosnan rifled home from 20 yards.

That as good as sealed the win but David O’Leary rounded off a fine day when he headed the third in injury time.

Limerick will now be hoping to bring that form back to the league this weekend when they travel to a high-flying Wexford Youths side on Friday night.
