Four Limerick sides in FAI Junior Cup action
LAST weekend we learned who would represent Limerick in the out of town stages of the FAI Junior Cup and four of those successful clubs get no time to sit on their laurels as they face more action in the National competition this weekend.
Carew Park scraped through their tussle with Moyross last weekend and as a reward face a daunting trip to Donegal to take on Moville FC on Sunday afternoon.
The Northerners are not having the best of times in their local league with 12 points from 6 starts but seem to be holding their best for cup games.
Carew while happy with the victory last weekend will be a little concerned that they struggled to beat a Div 1A side, albeit a very good one in Moyross.
A four goal haul is the positive they will take from the game but a big improvement is needed.
Dublin AUL side Grange will host Kilmallock in the Capital. Kilmallock’s 1-0 win over Hospital last weekend paved the way for this trip and Kilmallock will give it a good shot. Grange play in the Premier C league where they top the table having won all their games to date.
Regional Utd showed no sympathy for Div 2A side Weston Villa last weekend lashing in eight goals without reply. They may find things a little more difficult this weekend but visitors Kerrykeel 71 are a unknown quantity.
The Donegal side ply their trade in the second division of the Donegal League and currently lie in second place after seven games. A 5-1 victory at the weekend will have them in high spirits for Sunday’s game.
A focused Regional side should prove too strong for the visitors but they cannottake anything for granted.
Ballynanty Rvs take on Tipperary Premier side Glengoole. Glengoole have beaten both Clonmel Celtic and Clonmel Town so they are no mugs and cup fare has a habit of turning league form on its head.
Along with the FAI, there are three Munster Junior Cup games down for decision with most attention turning to the clash of Geraldines and Summerville Rvs. The two sides met in the FAI last weekend when they game was abandoned after half an hour. For the two sides to meet so soon again should give the game an extra edge but the two sets of Managers are clever enough to get the sides focused on football and we could be in for a good game.
After giving Carew Park the fright of their lives last weekend Moyross get another chance to test themselves against Premier opposition on Sunday afternoon when they host Janesboro.
‘Boro will be sore after losing so meekly to Pike Rvs last weekend and Moyross may well take the brunt of that. The Premier side will remember a couple of seasons being knocked out of the Lawson Cup in Moyross and will be rightly cagey. Like their A side Summerville Rvs B are looking to advance in the Provincial cup and they host Charleville in Portland Park.
There is one game in the Lawson Cup with old favourites Pike Rvs and Fairview Rgs crossing swords for the third time this season. Victories by 8-0 and 5-0 in previous games will see Pike installed unbackable favourites.
Pike look the team to beat this season but Ballynanty Rvs have already shown it can be done.
Focus in the Premier League is on the foot of the table with a couple of crucial games down for decision.
Aisling Annacotty take on Granville Rgs on Saturday evening while on Sunday morning Corbally Utd host a Wembley Rvs side coming close but still without a point to date.
The first quarter final of the Premier League’s Tuohy Cup takes place tomorrow evening at 7.30 in Jackman Park when Pike Rvs take on Corbally Utd for a semi final clash against Wembley Rvs or Regional Utd.
