Limerick picked up their second victory in the group stages of the Oscar Traynor Trophy when they easily accounted for Roscommon on Sunday afternoon.

The Connaught side knocked Limerick out of the competition last season so Aidan Ryan’s men were determined not to be caught cold this time out.

The result only gives part of the picture as Limerick totally dominated this one with the officials disallowing another three goals!

Straight from the off Limerick had the home side on the rack and after six minutes the deadlock was broken, John Tierney took off on a run that saw him weave by a number of defenders before he was hauled down on the edge of the box. Shane Clarke took the free kick and drilled it past the home keeper to put Limerick on their way.

Jonathan Grant had two goals harshly disallowed but Limerick were not be denied and they doubled their lead on the half hour mark.

Clarke raced onto a through ball from Pat Mullins and after drawing the defence squared for Grant to score.

Clarke left the field five minutes later to be replaced by John Boyle but Limerick, like in their opening game, seemed to ease off the gas, and while they did have another Grant goal disallowed they had to wait until the 80th minute to score a third; Shane Waters obliging after good approach work from Grant and Tierney.

A minute later Limerick struck with the goal of the game when Grant hit a beauty from outside the box that gave the keeper no chance, flying to the roof of the net to put the finishing touches to Limerick’s victory.
