LIMERICK FC will play league champions Shamrock Rovers in the EA Sports Cup semi-final after the sides were paired together in the draw on Monday night.

And for the second time this season, Limerick will have to travel to the Tallaght Stadium. They lost 1-0 in the FAI Cup at the end of May but were missing a number of key players on that occasion and will be looking for an improved performance this time around.

Limerick have already beaten Premier League sides Cork City and Bray Wanderers en route to this semi-final which will take place on the August Bank Holiday Monday, August 6. In the other semi-final Drogheda Utd host Sligo Rovers.

Meanwhile, Pat Scully’s side will be hoping to return to winning ways in the league this Friday when they travel to Galway to play Mervue Utd. Limerick lost 2-1 to Waterford Utd last Friday and remain in second place, two points behind leaders Longford Town.

“We had a very disappointing result away to Waterford last Friday and we need to step up our performance as we travel to play Mervue this Friday evening,” said Scully.

“We cannot afford anymore slip ups as we move deeper into the second half of the season. Focus and professionalism will be all important from now on and we need to bounce back after last week.”
