Manchester City to play Limerick FC in Thomond Park friendly
LIMERICK FC will play FA Premier League champions Manchester City in a friendly in Thomond Park on Sunday, August 5.
The glamour fixture was announced on Friday and will see the English giants arrive in Limerick a week before they open their season in the Charity Cup against Chelsea. The game will kick off at 7pm on the Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend and should draw a large crowd to the home of Munster rugby.
City are expected to bring a full-strength squad so stars like Carlos Tevez, Mario Ballotelli, Vincent Kompany and Joe Hart could all feature.
Thomond Park hosted a soccer friendly involving Sunderland and a Munster selection two years ago while Ireland have also played two international friendlies there. This will be Limerick’s second game this year against English opposition as they previously played a Liverpool XI side in Jackman Park in May.
Limerick currently lie in second place in Airtricity League Division 1 and the game against Man City will be just two days after their crucial home fixture against current leaders Longford Town.
Ticket details will be announced early next week but there will be discounts for season-ticket holders and players, coaches and parents of the club’s underage teams.
