Limerick Soccer - Pike continue on FAI Junior Cup traile
Following the success of Limerick’s Premier sides in the FAI Junior Cup last weekend it is the turn of Pike Rvs this weekend to keep the LDL colours flying when they visit Dublin side Collinstown.
Pike continued their good form at the weekend when they beat arch rivals Fairview Rgs to advance in the Lawson Cup.
Striker Seamus O’Carroll continued his good run with a superb second goal to kill off the game. Pike’s opponents eased into the fifth round with a 1-0 win over OMP FC last weekend and will be no pushover come Sunday.
They lie 9th of 12 teams in the Dublin AUL Premier Division with two wins to date but seem to be showing better form in cup fare.
Elsewhere the Munster Junior Cup takes centre stage with four outstanding third round games.
With no all-Premier clash on offer the pick of the bunch is Kilmallock v Carew Park.
The county side were very unlucky to exit the FAI last weekend at the hands of Grange in Dublin.
They will be looking for a quick return to winning ways but they host current Premier League champions Carew Park who are just as eager for a long run in the provincial tournament.
Carew Park were impressive last weekend following their long trip to Donegal where they beat local side Moville by 4-0.
Kilmallock have always had the ability to upset the odds in cup games but you feel Carew’s form should see them through.
Regional Utd progressed in the FAI by beating Kerrykeel last weekend and will be expected to win again on Sunday when they host a Caherconlish side going through a bad patch at present.
Regional’s star is shining bright at present and the addition of Brian O’Callaghan to the squad is further proof of their appeal.
On their day Caherconlish can be very good but the loss of a couple of key players has coincided with a dip in confidence that you cannot see returning by the weekend.
Another side successful in the FAI last weekend was Ballynanty Rvs who beat Tipperary side Glengoole by the only goal of the game.
This weekend Balla travel to a much improved Herbertstown side and even with home advantage the county side live more in hope than expectation.
The final Munster tie sees Hill Celtic at home to Corbally Utd in a game that could prove tight.
Celtic gave a good account of themselves when they played Balla in the FAI recently but felt they had more to offer. Sunday will prove the point when they meet a Corbally side on a high following their 7-0 win over Wembley Rvs side last weekend.
There are two games down for decision in the Lawson Cup when Cappamore host Charleville and Knockainey take on Hospital.
In the Premier League second placed Janesboro will be expected to close the gap on Pike Rvs when they meet Aisling Annacotty in Pearse Stadium.
Aisling showed a huge improvement last time out but ‘Boro might be a step too far for Mike McCarthy’s men.
Geraldines will be the last team Wembley Rvs would fancy meeting on Sunday while Granville Rgs and Summerville Rvs both on the back of bad beatings will be hoping for a change of fortune when they meet in Glenbrook.
In Div 1A Mungret have the chance to take sole lead in the table as they take on Shannon Town with current joint leaders not in league action.
On Thursday evening the Div 1A O’Halloran Cup kicks off with Shannon Hibs taking on high flying Mungret Reg at 7.30 in Jackman Park.
