Limerick Soccer - Tuohy Cup final place up for grabs
Pat Sheehan looks ahead to the weekend soccer action in the LDMC.
Regional Utd and Pike Rovers do battle for a place in the Tuohy Cup final when they meet in Jackman Park tomorrow evening.
Regional Utd are on a fine run of form, unbeaten since October 6 last when they went down 2-0 to none other than Pike Rovers.
Pike have been untouchable in the League but they went down in important cup ties to Ballynanty Rvs and Collinstown.
They bounced back well last weekend to defeat champions Carew Park to maintain their 100% League record.
Regional showed with victory in Waterford over Ferrybank what they are capable of but they will also be aware that against the same opposition a couple of weeks earlier failed to raise their game above mediocre.
If they enter tomorrow’s game with anything other than sheer enthusiasm they will suffer at the hands of a Pike side whose full focus is on local fare.
On Sunday attention returns to the Premier League with Pike again in the spotlight as they visit Janesboro looking to make it 12 wins from 12 starts.
Janesboro lie seven points behind the leaders so anything other than victory would be a disappointment for the home side.
Shane Clarke and Shane Waters missed the Oscar Traynor game last weekend through injury and their presence will be vital if Boro hope to inflict a first defeat on the visitors.
Pike will be looking to keep up their impressive record but I feel would settle for a point if pushed.
Waiting for the leaders to slip are Geraldines who face a sticky assignment away to Ballynanty Rvs. ‘Dines went down to Summerville Rovers in the Tuohy Cup on Thursday suffering their first defeat in 19 games.
Balla have 16 games unbeaten under their belt and are playing very well. This promises to be a cracking tie and well worth a visit. Regional Utd take on an improving Aisling Annacotty while Carew Park will be favoured against Corbally Utd. Fairview Rgs v Wembley Rvs makes up the list with Wembley looking for their first win over a new look Fairview XI.
In Division 1A the top game sees Moyross at home to Mungret while Pike Rvs host Knockainey and another game worth a look at is the League Div 2B game between local rivals Hill Celtic and Southend.
In the MFA Youth Cup Regional Utd need to improve on their finishing if they hope to progress past Clonmel Town and keep Limerick hopes alive.
Last weekend the Dooradoyle side had plenty of chances against Balla in the FAI Youth Cup but failure to capitalise saw them punished by a clinical Balla XI.
