GAA: Wolfe Tones Minor hurlers kicked off an eventful week for the GAA in Shannon on Sunday when they won the final of the C Championship by defeating Whitegate on a scoreline of 0-12 to 0-6 in very damp conditions at Bodyke.

The win comes ahead of the Juvenile Club’s Celebration Night in the Goalpost this Friday night.

A number of Clare players, including Shannon players Aaron Cunningham and John Guilfoyle, and their management team, including Wolfe Tones’ members Michael Collins and Diarmuid Horgan, will arrive with the Liam McCarthy Cup and both U21 Trophies at the clubhouse and supporters will be able to meet and greet the players and take part in a photo session.

At 8pm, a presentation of Wolfe Tones Tops will be made to juvenile county finalists on the U14 and Minor football teams and to the members of the winning U16A hurling and Minor C hurling teams.

The fundraising draw for a signed Clare Jersey and a 32 inch television, as well as numerous other prizes sponsored by club members, will take place at 9pm.

The celebration night comes ahead of the Juvenile AGM which takes place next Monday night, November 25, at 7.30 in the Old Bar.

The Annual General Meeting of Wolfe Tones na Sionna will take place on Monday December 2 at 7.30, also in the Old Bar.

MENTAL HEALTH: Shannon Mental Health Association is looking for new volunteers. They are affiliated to Mental Health Ireland and promote positive mental health in the community. If interested, ring Tony McMahon on 086 2359277.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: The annual Christmas Craft Fair will take place in Seán Lemass Public Library from Friday, November 29 until Friday, December 6. Don’t miss this opportunity to buy unique, hand-made Christmas gifts for friends and family.

COLLECTION: The local Filipino Community held a collection at the Town Centre on Friday for victims of the typhoon in the Philippines.

RECENT DEATHS: Sympathy to the family of Tom Moloney, Tola Park who died in University Hospial Limerick . Tom aged 66 years a native of Kicornan in Limerick. He lived in Shannon for over 44 years. He married Phil Singleton in Mary Immaculate Church in 1970. Phil died six years ago.

A very popular member of the community, Tom was best known as a musician with his band, The Tom Moloney Trio. He worked for Shannon Development before joining the Health Board, as a painter, as part of their maintenance team in Ennis. He also served on the Pioneer Council in Shannon. His remains were removed to Mary Immaculate church and after funeral mass he was laid to rest in Illaunamangh Cemetery. He is survived by his son, Alan; daughter, Jessica, brother Pat, relatives and friends.

ANNIVERSARY MASS: The First Anniversary Mass for Larry Sheridan, Finian Park will be held on Saturday next at 6.30pm.

SFADCO: Soon Shannon Development will be no more! The Organisation has played a significant role in the life of the community. On Thursday November 28 at 12 noon mass will be offered in SS John & Paul church for all deceased employees of Shannon Development. All retired staff and the public are most welcome.

SPS REMEMBER: A mass for deceased members of SPS will be held on this Saturday at 12noon in Mary Immaculate Church.

PREPARATION MASS: First Holy Communion Preparation Mass for Gael Scoil at the 6.30pm vigil mass on Saturday evening in SS John & Paul church.

ENROLMENT CEREMONY: The Confirmation Enrolment ceremony this Sunday at the 10am mass for candidates from St. Conaire’s School and their parents.

GREASE: Shannon Comprehensive School will be staging the musical Grease at the school in December from the 11 to the 14. Tickets on sale for €10, booking number is 087 6019183.
