COLLECTION: The Diocesan Needs collection takes place this weekend Sept 14/15.

BAPTISMS: We welcome into the Christian community those recently baptised. Saoirse Hartnett, son of Domhnaill and Sinead, Shannonvale and Amelia Rozalia Prendergast, daughter of Mark and Dominika, Ferndale. Baptism families attend 12noon Mass, on the second Sunday where the babies are welcomed to the Christian community. Baptism preparation meetings take place on the Wednesday evening before the second Sunday at 8.30pm in the sacristy. The telephone number is 455514.

FOLK GROUP: Our Folk Group who sing at the 12noon Mass each Sunday are looking for musicians and singers over 18 years to join. Rehearsals are on Thursdays at 7.30pm in the Sacristy.

ADULT PRAYER GROUP: The group has resumed on Monday nights at 7.30pm in the Don Bosco Centre. All are welcome.

ADAPT SERVICES: Adapt, based in Limerick offers a wide range of services to women survivors of domestic abuse and their children. Adapt offers a one-to-one service for women experiencing domestic abuse in the community. CAHERDAVIN RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Classes will be held this month in Basic DIY, Basic Computer and Book Club. Please indicate, when booking classes, whether morning, afternoon or evening classes would be preferable. Booking is essential as places are limited. We will have further information on upcoming activities in the Caherdavin Community Centre, tel. 061-325496. The committee members were delighted with the response to the Community Clean-Up Adults and children alike came out in force. A great job has been done all around for the Limericks Going for Gold Competition. Keep up the good work!

VIDES Ireland: VIDES Ireland is part of an international Voluntary Organisation and promotes voluntary service which has as its focus the protection of human rights, especially those of women, children and young people all over the world. It is an integral part of the work carried on by the Salesian Sisters. Through VIDES they offer young people 20 years and upwards the opportunity to go abroad to a developing country where their Sisters and communities are engaged in meaningful work in Africa and India. Should you be considering giving a short term or long term commitment to working in the developing world next Summer in a Salesian environment, you are welcome to join others in the first phase of preparation on Saturday 28 September. FAMILY MASS: The Parish has decided to have a Family Mass on the last Sunday of each month, commencing on Sunday Sept 29 at 12noon. A special welcome is extended to Past Pupils of our Parish schools. All families are invited to attend and are very welcome for refreshments after the Mass.

MILFORD CARE CENTRE: Milford care Centre is opening a Charity Shop at 22 Thomas Street on Sept 16. They are looking for women’s, men’s and children’s clothes, shoes, accessories, handbags, unwanted gifts, bric-a-brac etc. Please contact Aeilish at 086-8366846 from 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.

ADULT BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP: Console invites family, friends, work colleagues and community members bereaved by Suicide to Console House, 114 The Grange, Raheen, on the first Wednesday of each month from 7pm – 9pm. This group will be facilitated by two of Console’s staff. There is no appointment necessary – you can arrive on the night. More information is available on 061-306792.

ALZHEIMER SOCIETY: The Limerick Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland hold a Social Club for people with dementia and their carer, in a supported environment, and this takes place each Tuesday morning in the Woodfield House Hotel, between 11am and 1pm. There is no charge to attend and teas and coffee is provided. Please phone Mary at 313456 if you would like to attend, or just call to the Woodfield House Hotel on Tuesdays from 11am. The Society is very appreciative of the ongoing support it receives from the public.

AA: The Caherdavin Branch of AA holds a meeting in the Community Centre, Whitethorn Drive, on Wednesdays at 8.30pm.

BREAST CHECK: For women between the ages of fifty and sixty four there is a free Breast Check available. To get a registration form to enable you to get your free mammogram please go online to www.breastcheck.ie or Freephone 1800 45 45 55.

CAHERDAVIN ENTERPRISE GROUP: This group are based in the Community Centre. They provide office services to the residents of Caherdavin and the surrounding area. Some of the things they do include Word Processing, e-mail, Binding and Laminating, Telephone Answering Service and much more. The building is shared with the AA group, Local ICA, Youth Clubs, Naoinra na nOg, Parents and Toddlers group, Library and various community groups and organisations On ant given day or night, you could expect to find Irish Dancing, Keep Fit kids, HipHop Dancing, Keep Fit Adults, Weight Watchers, Guitar Lessons using the facilities. CURA SERVICES: The work of Cura consists of a variety of excellent services to those in crises. These include Crisis or Unplanned Pregnancy Support and Counselling (this includes Free Pregnancy test as required), Counselling and Support after an abortion, Support for mothers and/or fathers of a new baby and Schools Awareness Programme. All services are provided by trained crisis pregnancy and post abortion counsellors and are free, confidential and non-judgemental. Clients can avail of Cura services by dropping in to their local centre during opening hours (an appointment is not necessary) or they can arrange an appointment outside of office opening hours if required. ACCORD: The Marriage Preparation Courses for 2013 are continuing. It appears that the courses for the next few months are fully booked. Courses runs from 7-10pm on Friday night and from 9am to 3.30pm on Saturday. These courses will continue each month. CIVIL REGISTRATION SERVICE: The Civil Registration Act 2004 requires all couples planning a marriage ceremony in Ireland to register their intent of marriage with the State at least three calendar months prior to their wedding date. LIMERICK SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB: Old time dancing, Cabaret and Exercise to Music is available at Pery’s Hotel, Glentworth Street on Tuesday nights. Music is provided by the resident band and the music suits all age groups. Teas are also served by the committee. Everybody is welcome together with their friends.

CAHERDAVIN COMMUNITY LIBRARY: The Caherdavin Branch of the City Library opens at the following times at the Community Centre: Monday 3pm to 7.30pm; Wednesday 5pm to 8pm; Friday 10am to 12noon. Membership is free to adults and children.

IRISH DANCING CLASSES: Classes for boys and girls are run at Caherdavin Irish Dance Studio on Tuesdays at 6pm. These are for all ages and level, with small classes and individual attention and they are also for fun, fitness or feiseanna (no jigs). Classes are also held in Meelick and Cratloe. SENIOR HELP LINE: Third age is a National Confidential Listening Service for older people by older volunteers. It is a local call throughout Ireland and is open every day of the year. The times are Mon-Thurs: 10am – 10pm; Fri-Sun 10am-4pm/7-10pm.

OSTEOFIT – EXERCISE FOR STRONG BONES: Osteofit classes have restarted in Caherdavin. The class is aimed at healthy independent active older adults. It involves a warm-up, followed by exercises to help prevent falls and improve balance, strenfth, posture and bone density as well as some flexibility and relaxation. There is no commitment from you.
