INTERMEDIATE HURLERS SEMI FINAL: Blackrock Intermediate hurlers will meet Dromin Athlacca in the Co. Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Final on Sunday 29 September in Kilmallock at 3.30pm as part of a double header with the other Semi Final game at 2pm. While in the 2014 County Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Blackrock will be joined by Bruff, Bruree, Croom, Dromin/ Athlacca, Garryspillane, Hospital Herbertstown and Knockaderry,
WIN FOR FOOTBALLERS AND HURLERS: Junior Footballers remain in Contention : On Wednesday evening last week 4 September in Killbreedy, Blackrock played Bruree in the South Junior ‘A’ Football Championship and scored a well merited win by 2.14 to 2.05. Blackrock were the early pacesetters and scored 1.04 from Richard McCarthty, Kenneth Douglas, Ian O’Brien and Kevin Palmer before scored their only score in the opening half, a point. Three further points from Adrian Cooke, Kenneth Douglas and Ian O’Brien gave Blackrock a 1.07 to 0.01 interval lead. The second half was more evenly contested , Blackrock as in the opening half scored three early points from Kenneth Douglas, Richard McCarthy and Adrian Cooke, Bruree repled with two points before Sean Palmer scored a p[enalty goal to put the issue beyond doubt. Bruree replied with a goal and point before Adrian Cooke, Shane Shanahan and Kenneth Douglas added Blackrock points, Bruree had a second goal before both sides exchanged points, Shane Shane Shanahan the Blackrock scorer to give Blackrock victory and remain in contention in the championship race. Blackrock will play Galtee Gaels on this weekend in Round Five of the championship where a win would give them a place in Semi Final a week later.
Junior Hurlers Qualify for South Final : On Saturday last 7 September Blackrock played Castletown Ballyagran in the South Junior ‘B’ Championship Semi Final in Kilmallock and after a very well contested game it was Blackrock that emerged winners and reach the final on a score line 4.09 to 2.09. Blackrock got off to a great start with a James Heffernan goal after a shot at goal from James O’Doherty rebounded to the scorer who made no mistake. Castletown Ballyagran got on top and scored 1.04 without reply until James O’Doherty pointed a free, Castletown Ballyagran added two further points to go into a five point lead, Blackrock finished the opening half with a goal and pointed free from James O’Doherty to leave the minimum between the sides at the interval 1.06 to 2.02 after Blackrock had been reduced to fourteen players in the first half. On the resumption of play Blackrock were on top with Kenneth Douglas scoring a point followed by a goal. Castletown Ballyagran replied with a goal and point to restore a point lead, both sides exchanged points, as this stage Castletown Ballyagran had a player dismissed, Mike Roche the Blackrock scorer from a free. Blackrock who had a second player dismissed got on top, replied with a second goal from James Heffernan who seemed to be fouled and a second Castletown Ballyagran player dismissed, points from Mike Roche , free, James O’Doherty and Adrian Cooke had Balckrock in the driving seat, Castletown Ballyagran replied with pointed free but as in thye opening half Blackrock finished stronger adding two points from Miuke Roche, on from a free to give his side a well merited victory 4.9 to 2.09 and a place in the final with Dromin Athlacca. KILFINANE ATHLETIC : It was a quieter week on the race front this week with many turning their attention to training and preparations for the Cross Country Season which starts off with the County Novice on September 29 in University of Limerick. The Charleville Half Marathon is sure to be well supported by club members in the coming weeks. Midweek training starts off this Thursday in Kilfinane from 7 to 8. The following is a summary of events which club members participated in over the last week. Emly 13K, The club had 3 runners participating in the Emly 13k on Friday last 6 Sepember, which was the last race of the Limerick Ballyhoura series. First home was Breda Bridges in another great time of 65:23. Next home was the ever improving Ben Begley who went around in 70:29 with Paul McCarthy putting in another fine run and completing the course in 75:17. Other Events, Helen O Sullivan and Sean Manning ran the Doneraile 5K on Friday last 6 Sepember, where a fine crowd turned out for a fundraiser for Liscarroll National School. Patrick O Sullivan continues to see his times falling with a fine run in the Glasgow 5K Park Run, completing the course in 19:41. Sean Manning ran in the last race of the IMRA Munster League series which saw competitors take on a tough 18km race from Killavullen to Ballyhooly across the Nagle mountains. Sean finished 14th in this event and 8th overall in the Munster League. Midweek training starts this Thursday 12 September from 7pm to 8pm GAA grounds in Kilfinane -- with Ben Begley and Breda Bridges.
GlLENROE/BALLYORGAN ACTIVE GROUP: After a long beautiful summer I am sure all participants of the above Group are ready for action for the coming year 2013/2014. The first meeting of our Group will take place on Tuesday next 17 September with Mass at 10.00 a.m. and meeting in the Hall afterwards.
