OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL: Welcome back to all the children and parents of Our Lady of Lourdes School. The new school year is well and truly under way at this stage. The children are learning the routines of their new classes and getting used to having their homework done every night. We thank all the parents for having their children kitted out well for school, with books, copies and equipment in order.
We have two classes of Junior Infants this year, led by their teachers Ms. Maguire and Ms. Jones. While Ms. Maguire is a familiar face on the infant corridor, many parents may not know Ms. Jones as well. While she has spent many years teaching Senior Infants and Third class, for the last number of years, Ms. Jones has been specialising in Reading and Maths Recovery. The specific skills she brings back to the classroom will undoubtedly benefit the children in her care.
Starting school is a big milestone for you and your child. You want your child to be well prepared for the step on life’s journey. Children who are well prepared for school learn better and have fewer behaviour problems at home as well as school. In the coming weeks, Our Lady of Lourdes School will be running the Incredible Years School Readiness Programme, a 6 week programme which trains parents in how to build your child’s self esteem and creativity through play. Parents will be trained to build their child’s language and reading skills, along with their problem solving skills. This programme will be open to parents of Junior Infants and the Early Start. Start dates and other details will be finalised soon. Get your name in early to hold your place. Tracy can be contacted at 085 7290048.
During the summer holidays Mr. And Mrs. Doyle celebrated the arrival of their new baby daughter, Róisín. Congratulations to the Doyle family. We welcome two new teachers to our staff, Ms. Éilís O’Dwyer and Ms. Andrea Wallace.
We will be inviting the parents of the children in sixth class to come to a meeting at the end of September for the ‘My Child, My Vision’ training, which is a programme for parents to help them to ease the transition from primary to second level school for their child. It is important that parents are active in this process as many of the secondary schools open nights will be on soon. Applications for secondary schools have to be made by Christmas. Tracy Fitzgerald (HSCL) and Samantha Kiely (Parent/SCP) will facilitate the sessions.
