SYMPATHY: The sympathy of the community is extended to the Fitzgerald family Castlegrey, Kilcornan on the untimely death of Theresa, after an illness bravely borne. She was laid to rest in Kilcornan on Tuesday after Requiem Mass in St. John the Baptist Church. Theresa is survived by her loving husband Aidan, daughters Jackie, Susan and Tracie, son-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, cousins, relatives and her many friends. May she rest in peace.
ASTROTURF: Last Saturday saw the culmination of a year’s hard work when our new astroturf pitch was officially opened by Niall Quinn. A large crowd attended the very well organised function with guests representative of, political, sporting, religious, statutory bodies, and various clubs from the surrounding area, West Limerick Resources, who provided a major portion of the financial cost, with Bank of Ireland, Askeaton and Cois Sionna Credit Union who were both involved in the form of bridging and loans. The family of the late Ger McDonnell were guests of the committee and Gertie, Ger’s mother, with Niall Quinn officially opened the Ger McDonnell Park. Guest speakers at the function were introduced by Pat Lynch and included Ger Mann from the Community Development Committee, John Sheehan of Limerick County Council, Tom Madigan of West Limerick Resources, J.J. McDonnell representing the McDonnell Family, and the special guest Niall Quinn. A very special thanks to Niall who stayed all afternoon to meet everyone for a chat or photographs. He made a lasting impression and I think that Niall will always be associated with Ger McDonnell Park.
WELLNESS WORKSHOP: The Limerick Federation of the ICA are holding a full day training session at the Day Care Centre, Drombanna on October 12 from 9.30 am to 5pm. Such sessions are being held countrywide by SOS that is ‘Suicide or Survive’ aimed at promoting good mental health and combating negative and destructive psychological conditions. SALE OF WORK: There will be a sale of work and cake sale on Sunday next September 15 from 11.30am to 3.30pm in the Community Centre in Kilcornan. The entire proceeds will be in aid of the feeding of the poorest of the poor at Christmas in the Township of Zweshle in South Africa. SET DANCING: Set Dancing classes have commenced since Monday September 9. Classes for children and teenagers are from 8pm to 9pm also for adult beginners, to help them to get to know some steps and rhythm before getting into the sets at 9pm. Set dancing then continues until 10pm. The cost of the classes is €5, children €3 and couples €9. All welcome.
RUN/WALK OR CRAWL IN BALLINGARRY FOR SUICIDE AWARENESS: The 13th Annual Ballingarry 10k Run/Walk will be held on September 15 and we will all take to the roads around Ballingarry to Run, walk or jog in aid of Pieta House Limerick. The Run will start from the hall at 2pm. We are looking for runners, walkers or what ever way you would like participate all in aid of a much deserved Charity Pieta House. Registration as usual in the hall at noon. Sponsorship cards are available,all donations accepted, refreshments and music in the hall afterwards for everybody to enjoy.
