Cycle/Run/Walk: With the cycle/run/walk done and dusted it is now time to thank all who were involved and who helped make the event such a huge success.

Ballyhahill was buzzing that weekend and it all ran so smoothly. A great deal of hard work went into the event by both Gerald Griffins Ladies Football Club and Bally Rovers FC but without the many other volunteers, the event would not have been possible. From the lads on the motorbikes, stewards, nurses, red cross, photographers, the DJ, the ladies in Rockchapel, (for their hospitality), the people at the water stops, lead car drivers, van drivers, maintenance men, cyclists, runners, walkers, the tea ladies (who were like Mrs. Doyle) and not forgetting Mickey and Minnie mouse a huge thank you to all. As always, people are so kind and generous when we go begging looking for donations and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who supported this particular event:

Visit Griston Bog: Maureen Finnegan has a special Day Trip on Sunday September 15th. She says “This is a very special trip you will not want to miss. We will visit Lough Gur state of the art Heritage Centre which is a most beautiful spot on the borders of Tipperary and Limerick. You will get tea, coffee and scones on arrival. Then we will be given a guided tour and told all about this beautiful place. After we finish seeing everything we will board the bus for Griston Bog which is not like any other bog that you have ever seen. Science classes take place here during the school term, offering students a great chance to learn first hand about the different inhabitants of the bog. You will see and experience how beautiful and wonderful a job Mother Nature has done. There is another added feature. Animal Magic Kilmallock will bring along some of the birds of prey that are familiar to this bog i.e. Long Eared Owls, Tawny Owl and water fowl to name but a few. You will have the opportunity to get up close to these magnificent birds which will be in the capable hands of their handlers. We won’t be having breakfast as we will have a late start but we will be having a most delicious lunch in The Deebert House Hotel, which is owned and run by people from Newcastle West. This is a flavour of the day. For more information and to book contact Maureen 087/9845102 as we have quite a considerable number of places booked already.” Maureen also reminds those planning to travel to Bundoran “If you haven’t already confirmed your booking with payment please do so this week. Thank you for your co-operation.”
