ORAL HISTORY TRAINING: West Limerick Resources will be running an Oral History Recording Training Initiative this autumn. Training will consist of two elements. Participants will develop Oral History Interviewing techniques as well as examine the legal and ethical issues relevant to gathering Oral History. The second element of the training will focus on digital voice recording and editing techniques. Training will also explore how oral history can contribute to the local heritage of communities and identify suitable ways of showcasing their research. Training is expected to begin in October and to run one evening per week for 10 weeks. The course is free of charge and open to people living in the West Limerick area. FEENAGH/KILMEEDY GATHERING EVENT: The Feenagh/Kilmeedy Heritage Committee is hosting a two day celebration of their rich local heritage to mark Gathering 2013 on Friday September 20th and Saturday September 21st. The celebration will kick off at 8pm on Friday the 20th in the Feenagh Community Centre where Professor Liam Irwin will deliver a talk on the History of Feenagh/Kilmeedy Parish. The evening’s events will also feature a slideshow display and a range of memorabilia dating back to the 1830’s including old photographs, letters and a video on the old creamery. This will be followed on Saturday the 21st by a local heritage walk, again led by Professor Irwin starting at the new school in Feenagh and tracing the history and stories behind the various houses and structures between the new and old school which is now the newly redeveloped community centre. Both events will incorporate a social element with refreshments available and an opportunity for people to share their knowledge of the history of the local area. Events are free of charge and open to all with a special invitation to former parishioners living around Ireland & abroad!

PROGRAMME ON MENTAL HEALTH: To mark World Mental Health Day (October 10th) a radio programme, produced by the staff of the West Limerick Primary Health Care Project for Travellers, will be aired by West Limerick 102fm on October 2nd after the 11am news. It will feature Thomas McCann from the Traveller Counseling Service and Aisling McMahon, Clinical Psychologist who recently completed a PhD thesis on mental health in the Traveller community.

Medjugorje Trip: A trip to Medjugorje has being arranged for September 14th to 21st with flights from/to Shannon Airport. B&B and evening meal are included, total cost €689. Pleasure Trip To Westport: We are going ahead with our short break in September to Westport and other parts of Mayo and surrounding areas. We will be leaving on Sunday September 29th and returning on Friday October 4th. There are still a few places available and anyone interested in going is asked to contact Brendan on 087-2137368. Ploughing Championship: The annual Ploughing Championship will take place from Tuesday September 24th to Friday September 27th in Stradbally Co.Laois. One of the last major outdoor events before the evening’s close and always a very popular event in the rural calendar.

Cards: The following are the results of cards held in Shanagolden Community Hall. First prize on eleven games went to Moss O’ Connor and Willie Keating, Second prize on ten games to Jim Dalton and Francis Woulfe. Table prize winners were Mai Wall and Partner and Jim Dalton and Francis Woulfe. Raffle Winners were Paddy Sheehy, Nancy Danaher, John Danaher and Marie Wrenn. Lottery tickets were: Vinnie Wrenn and Marie Wrenn. Cards every Friday night at 9.15pm. All are welcome.

Duathlon: St.Senans GAA in association with Walk of Life are organising a Duathlon, a cycle and 5km run and 5km run/walk on Saturday 21st September in aid of Milford Hospice.
