RATHKEALE SPORTS COMPLEX: Snooker and Billiards Club will be holding the 4th Joe Daly Open Billiards Cup on March 3. It promises to be Billiards at its highest level, with players from Kilkenny, Cork and Laois competing, including locals Anthony O’Flaherty, Jason Dowling and Michael O’Shaughnessy. The first matches will start at 11am and will continue until 6pm. All are welcome. Tea and sandwiches all day.

LENT: Lent – 40 days to allow God’s spirit to refresh the self, to cut away the unnecessary, to reach out to help others, to make an new start and prepare for the great three days of the Lord’s Passion, death and rising from the dead.

SOCIAL SERVICES: Limerick Social Services Centre wishes to thank the parish for €405 at their recent Church gate collection.

PARISH SECRETARY: The Parish Secretary works Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am to 5pm with a lunch break.

FAST DAYS: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are two days of fast and abstinence. For all Catholics this means not eating meat or drinking alcohol and having two small meals and one main meal on both those days. It does not apply to children, the elderly or the ill.

We would all Catholics in sporting organizations or clubs to ensure that sports events, etc., do not clash with the Easter ceremonies, especially on Good Friday at 3pm and 7.30pm.

YEAR OF THE FAITH: Ideas for the Year of the Faith this year is designated by Pope Benedict as a year of faith. As a parish we are going to do something special to celebrate it. Have you got any ideas for a pilgrimage, event, etc? Please contact Parish Clergy or a member of the Parish Council. Thank you.

YOUTH CONFERENCE: The National Parish Youth Conference for young people (12-18 years old) for every parish in Ireland takes place in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, on Saturday February 23. Theme for it is “Life is a Gift”. Those involved will be drawn from parish youth councils, youth choirs, parish groups and re departments. Guest speaker will be Joan Freeman from Pieta House. ARTS GROUP: Rathkeale Arts Group Cinema Club presents Charles Chaplin in his human drama, it will move you to love, laughter and tears with Claire Bloom in “Limelight” at Rathkeale Art Centre, on Saturday, February 23. Door open at 8.30pm. Tickets €5, John Dinnage and the Library.

FASHION SHOW: Fashion Show in Rathkeale House on Thursday, February 21 at 7.30pm with Bella Sola, K Boutique, Virgo, Elle Boutique, Noels, Morans, Moreto Love/Bridal, John Dinnage, Scanlons Menswear and Patsy’s Fashions. Child €5, Adult €10, family (4) €25.

RATHKEALE COMMUNITY ARTS GROUP: The next screening of a movie will take place at the Art Centre in Rathkeale on Saturday, February 23, admission €5 for membership.

We are delighted to announce the next movie will be the 1952 comedy-drama film “Limelight”, staring Charlie Chaplin, Claire Bloom, Buster Keaton and many more.

The theme of the movie is titled “Terry’s Theme” also known as the lovely “Eternally”. Doors open at 8pm for start at 8.30pm. Booking at 086 1249955.
