JUNIOR HURLERS SUFFER DEFEAT IN COUNTY SEMI FINAL: On Saturday last 26 October last Blackrock played Templeglantine in Ballyagran in the Semi Final of the County Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship, the game which was a repeat of the Co. League Final played earlier this year in which Templeglantine were one point winners, saw the West Champions proved too good on the day to score a very comfortable win by 5.15 to 2.12, it is said goals win game and Templeglantine proved this beyond doubt in this particular one even though Blackrock did score two very late goals, but this only put a better look on the scoreboard. The winners led from start to finish after they opened the scoring with a point, and led at the interval by 2.08 to 0.08 after hitting ten wide’s from scoring positions from play and frees. The Blackrock scores in the opening half came from Pat Heffernan (0.04f), Adrian Cooke (0.02) who had played in the Co Minor ‘B’ Football Championship final earlier in the day, Kenneth Douglas (0.01), and Ben Soundy (0.01).
The early stages of the second half saw Blackrock aided by the breeze, score two early points from Brian O’Shaughnessy who was introduced at the interval, and David Healy to reduce the deficit to four points but Templeglantine hit back with a brace of goals to put the issue beyond doubt, followed by two points from play and had a goal disallowed, while Blackrock had a free pointed by Pat Heffernan, the winners replied with a goal and a pointed free to put five goals between the sides as some of the crowd were heading to the gate. Blackrock did have two late goals, Mike Roche found the net from a long range free, while Pat Heffernan flicked a shot to the net before David Healy scored a point to leave eight points between the sides at the final whistle, in a game where Blackrock found it hard to score from play where only 1.04 came from play from their starting forward line while Templeglantine were always able to score when needed as well as hitting a dozen wide’s Blackrock team and scorers : James McGrath, Eoin Quinn, T G Ryan, Tony Sheerin, Josh Slattery, Vincent Herbert (Capt), Mike Roche (1.0f), Eddie O’Keeffe, David Healy (0.02.), Ben Sound (0.01). Kenneth Douglas (0.01), Adrian Cooke (0.02), James Heffernan, Pat Heffernan, (1.05, 5f) Brian Coughlan. Subs Brian O’Shaughnessy (0.01) for B.Coughlan, Paudie Lawlor for J. KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : Fantastic Results in Dublin Marathon. Well done to all who took part in the Dublin Marathon and a big thumbs up to the 6 hardy Kilfinane AC runners who all had fantastic runs. Joe O’ Brien added his name to the growing list of club sub 3 hour finishers with a very impressive 2:56:37. Gary Egan continues to impress with a fantastic PB time of 3:01:03. Seamus Hourigan ran an excellent PB finishing in 3:09:42 some 10 minutes quicker than his previous best. Iron Mike McCauliffe put an injury riddled season behind him with a fantastic time of 3:22:59. Indeed the fantastic times posted owe a lot to the group training runs in Dromin where Mike has put the lads through their paces over the last few months. Great to see all the hard work paying off. Well done to Tina Hayes and Anne Daly on completing their first marathon. Both ladies have gone from 5k to marathon distance since joining the club this year and can be very proud of their latest achievement. Anne completed the course in 4:58:24 and Tina in 5:11:25.
