CALCUTTA CALLING: Maura Allen is again returning to Calcutta. A fundraising table quiz is being held at the Central Bar, Bruree, on Friday, November 8, starting at 9pm. Subscription for a team of four is just €20. Every euro raised on the night will go directly to Calcutta. Your support on the night would be greatly appreciated. The quiz is to raise much needed funds to continue supporting a project in Calcutta started by Fr. Pat Hogan and his group back in 2005.

BADMINTON: Bruree Badminton Club is up and going again in the community hall for the new season. There is training/play every Monday and Wednesday night from 9 to 11pm. New members are always welcome - just turn up any Monday or Wednesday night.

PHOTOS: The photos collected for the Gathering weekend are now available to view in the De Valera Museum and De Valera Heritage Centre. The centre is open Monday to Thursday 9 to 5 and Friday 9.00 to 4.30 pm.

ROCKHILL AND BRUREE COMMUNITY HALL: Now taking bookings for the autumn and winter season! If your club would like to book the hall and secure the day and time you want, please phone the community hall on 086 056 5544. All bookings will be on a “first come, first secured” basis. Facilities include: Large Hall with viewing space, stage, 2 badminton courts, hand ball alley, large outdoor space and kitchen. The Hall is also available for hire for functions. Phone 086 056 5544 for further information. Upcoming events include a Halloween children’s disco and a Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December. Details to follow.

HOLY SOULS: The Holy Souls special day in Emmanuel House, Clonfert, will take place on Sunday, November 10. It will be led by Eddie Stones and various priests. Book early as the bus is more than half full already. Names (with fare of €20) should be given to Ann Mockler (063-90564). All are welcome.

STEPPING STONES PLAYSCHOOL: The after-school service at Stepping Stones Community Playschool has started and is doing really well. Remember, the playschool want everyone to avail of this handy service and also want to make it affordable for everyone. Families in receipt of social welfare payments can avail of the service from 2 - 3pm every day from as little as €5 per week. JUVENILE GAA: Under 8: Bruree Under 8 football team was invited to take part in an Cross Cluster Football Blitz in Old Christians, Rathbane, Limerick. Once again Bruree Under 8’s turned out in large numbers, so we entered two teams into the blitz. Each team played 3 matches; Bruree 1 played Mungret, Monaleen and Croom, while Bruree 2 played Mungret, Pallaskenry and Ballybricken. Bruree played very well in all their matches and were a credit to Bruree GAA in the outstanding performances that each player gave. The Management would like to thank all the parents who travelled to Old Christians GAA, and to Sean Deane and Seamus Sheahan for their help on the day.

It’s been a fantastic year for Bruree Under 8s in football and hurling. They have played matches against Bruff, Croom, Kilmallock, Knockainey, Pallasgreen, Granagh/Ballingary, Hospital/Herbertstown, Caherline, Ballybricken, Fedamore, Galtee Gaels, Galbally, Caherconlish, Mungret, Pallaskenry and Monaleen.

The improvement and commitment each player has shown over the season has been phenomenal. Frank, Mairead, Eamon and Owen are very proud and would like to say thank you to each player for the brilliant year and look forward to seeing them all next year. Under 13: Congratulations to our Under 13s on winning the county 11 a side hurling title. Well done to the boys on a great performance and congratulations to the management team of Peter Buckley, Laura Leslie and Declan Sexton. This was a good way to finish the year on the field. Following on from the success of the U16 team there will be plenty of medals to be presented at this year’s awards night which will take place in early January. A date for your diary!

AGM: The Juvenile GAA AGM will take place on Friday, November 29th, in the School. Time to be confirmed.

RAMBLING HOUSE: The next Traditional Irish Rambling House will be held on this Friday, November 1 starting at 8pm in Bruree Community Hall. As usual, there will be a great line up of musicians and singers, both local and visiting, to provide a great night’s entertainment. There will be a cup of tea and a great selection of eatables as well as a raffle. Admission is just €5 and everyone is welcome.

GAA: Players Development Fund: Bruree GAA is holding its annual Player Development Fund annual draw again this year. The 2013 draw has €4,500 in prizes over four weekly draws. And the good news is that the subscription is still the same - just €20 for the four draws. The first draw will be held on Monday, December 2nd, with the other draws on subsequent Monday nights. The prizes for each of the first three draws are 1st €500 2nd €200 and three prizes of €100. The Grand Prize in the final draw on Monday, December 23rd is €1,000 with a second prize of €200 and three prizes of €100. To participate in the final draw the full subscription must have been paid. The club caters for a total of nineteen teams at underage and adult level and your continued support for the draw will ensure that the club can continue to provide for everyone in the parish who wishes to participate in our gaelic games. SYMPATHY: We extend our sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Rita Carroll, Ballyagran, who died recently.
