Drive to Survive: The volunteers who had travelled to collect monies for the cancer drive returned to Ballylanders on the pattern evening sodden from the wet conditions were welcomed by patrons including outgoing Mayor Margaret O Donnell. Even though the weather was disastrous they were all in excellent spirit, they took part in the fancy dress parade led by the Liam Lynch Anglesboro pipe band. At the conclusion of the parade various speakers including Dan Gallahue & John Curtin who were responsible for the Drive spoke of the wonderful reception they received on their travels throughout the country o the seven days previous. It would be remiss not to mention the fifty or so people who travelled with the group as they too played a major role during the week without whose assistance it would have been impossible. A special word of thanks to the four young pipers who travelled with the group. Finally Keith Hanley the voice of Ireland entertained the large crowd singing the “Galtee Mountain Boy” along with other renditions to suit the crowd gathered. Maurice Walsh too was very entertaining with his own song or two.
