MASS ROCK: Parishioners from Newmarket-on-Fergus and Shannon will join together on this Sunday August 25 for a Pilgrimage Walk and mass at the ancient Mass Rock at Knockane. Pilgrims are invited to gather at the Adoration Chapel in Skycourt and walk together to Ballymurtagh Cross where the ancient Holy Well and Mass Rock are located. The walk is about 1.2 kilometers. Parking will also be available near the site for those who cannot make the walk. Assembly will be at 2.30pm and mass will be celebrated on the site at 3pm.

HURLING: Congratulations to Clare on reaching the All-Ireland final with a victory over Limerick. Shannon was a deserted town on Sunday afternoon like so many others in the Limerick and Clare area.

CAMP: The last camp of the summer season will take place in the Leisure Centre from Monday to Friday for children aged 5 to 13. The Asolute Fun and Games camp will run from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day, call the centre for details.

REPEAT LEAVING: St Flannan’s Ennis September 2013 Repeat Leaving Certificate Course offers a wide range of subject choice. No school tuition fees apply. Application forms available by contacting the school office or in writing to Fr. Ignatius McCormack, Course Director. LEGAL CLINIC: The next Free Legal Advice Clinic will be held on Monday August 26 at the community Office which is located in Unit 1 of the business Centre adjacent to the Library from 5.15pm to 5.45pm. Please attend at 5.15pm to ensure being seen by a solicitor. No appointment is necessary.

INFORMATION EVENING: The Adult Education Centre in Bru na Sionna, Shannon is holding an Information Evening on the Leaving Certificate for adults, part-time options on Tuesday September 3 at 7.30pm. The contact number is 065 684 3663.

ADULT SWIMMING: Swimming lessons for adults will begin in the Leisure Centre on Tuesday September 10 at 7pm and on Thursday September 12 at 9.30am. The cost for five lessons is €40. A non refundable desposit of €20 is needed to secure a place. There is a great selection of children’s lessons available starting the first week of September.

MUSIC EVENT: On Saturday 24 August 2013 the Jaskane Café Trio, a National Heritage Week event will take place at 11.30am in the Library.

MUSICAL: Shannon Musical Society has chosen for their 2014 production Jesus Christ Superstar. The launch night is due to take place on Tuesday September 3.

GOLDEN CELEBRATIONS: EI Electronics, the largest indigenous company in the region, celebrates 50 years in business this year. To mark this remarkable milestone, the company is hosting an OPEN DAY at its Shannon Free Zone facility on Sunday, September 1. The Open Day, which runs from 11am to 6pm, will be both educational and fun and will incorporate factory tours, a photographic display, a tented village, children’s activities, and entertainment. It is open to current and past employees and their families, members of the local and wider Shannon region communities, the general public, schools or anyone who wishes to visit one of the biggest employers and contributors to the local economy. RECENT DEATHS: Sympathy to the family of Steve McKee, Tullyvarraga Court . His remains were bought to SS John & Paul church and following funeral mass Steve was laid to rest in Illaunamanagh Cemetery.

Eddie Culligan, Cronan Gardens died peacefully in Milford Hospice last Tuesday. Aged 76 years and a native of Westmeath he lived in Shannon for 40 years. He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Gary and Eddie; daughters Jackie and Janet and his grandchildren. who was buried on Thursday. To Jim Lynch, Carrig Lia on the death of his sister Monica Traynor, Monaghan, who died recently. To Loretta O’Connor, Ballycaseymanor on the death of her father Larry Kennedy, Newmarket-on-Fergus who was buried on Thursday. To Nuala Cantillon, Tullyvarraga Crescent on the death of her mother Bridget Fox, Newmarket-on-Fergus who was buried on Friday. May they rest in peace.
