KILFINANE TIDY TOWNS : Kilfinane Tidy Towns would like to say a big Thank You, to you for your generosity at our Church Gate Collection recently in Kilfinane. We were overwhelmed with your financial support and look forward to your continued support in the future. We are in the process of organising our 80’s disco which will be held again this year over the Christmas period. It was a great success last year and a very enjoyable night for all. DOG SHOW AT ANIMAL SANCTUARY THIS SUNDAY : On this Sunday 25 August Limerick Animal Welfare will host their Annual Dog Show at the sanctuary in Moorestown. The event which is a very popular one with families. It will commence at 12 noon and continue to 4pm. and everyone is invited to go along and enjoy a great day out. Included on the programme will be Fancy Dress, Best Greyhound, Best Couple Dog and Owner, Judge’s Favourite, Best Rescue of course Best in Show. There will be four places certificates for all and prizes. The Dog Show is always a popular item on the programme and there are many more attractions for all the family to enjoy, including ‘The Great Sausage Race’ which the Sanctuary staff once again will host for visitors and their dogs. Other highlights will include a Treasure Hunt for children plus Raffle, Refreshments, Ice Cream and Home Baking and Hot Food. Dial a Dog Wash and many other attractions.
ALL IRELAND SEMI FINALS : It was a very disappointing day in Croke on Sunday last 18 August, as Limerick You’re a Lady, was not heard when thousands of Limerick supporters witnessed Limerick loose out in the All Ireland Minor and Senior Hurling Semi Finals, losing to Galway in the Minor game after extra time was played, and Clare in the Senior game. Many locals travelled to GAA Headquarters in the hope of a Limerick victory, but it was not to be, however the fact that Limerick won two Munster Hurling Championship Titles in 2013 will be recorded on the record books and overall it was a good year despite the results on Sunday last.
BLACKROCK IN SOUTH JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP ACTION THIS WEEKEND : Blackrock have two games in the South Championship this weekend, first up are the Junior hurlers who play Camogue Rovers in the South Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship on this Friday evening 23 August in Kilbreedy at 7pm. Both sides are unbeaten in their opening two rounds and while both are assured of a Semi Final place, the result of Friday determines group winners while on Sunday at 12 noon Blackrock play Bruree in Kilbreedy in the South Junior ‘A’ Football Championship, Bruree are undefeated after the opening three rounds while Blackrock have two wins out of three games, and a win on Sunday is vital to stay in contention.
COUNTY HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINALS : Blackrock will play Kileedy in the County Intermediate Hurling Championship Quarter Final on the weekend of 1 September.
BLACKROCK CAMOGIE CLUB : Blackrock Camogie Club are holding a clothes, soft toy, shoes, belts handbags, bed linen and curtains collection on Friday 23 August from 7 to 8.30pm.and on Saturday morning 24 August from 11 o’clock to 2.30pm at Teach na Cille. Mobile Phones and Books also welcome . Your support would be greatly appreciated.
KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : The last few weeks have seen many of the clubs runners availing of the numerous race options in the local area. The results in Clonmel are the big highlight along with Breda Bridges 1st O40 in Mitchelstown GR8 and Pat O Sullivans Second in Kildorerry 5 mile. Overall great to see so much participation across a range of events. Clonmel Half Marathon The Clonmel Half Marathon which took place on 18August and had over 500 runners taking to the start line with Kilfinane AC’s Gary Egan, Joe O’Brien and Seamus Hourigan very much at the front end of affairs with Gary finishing Twenty Eight overall in a time of 1:24:36, Joe 34th in 1:25:36 and Seamus 52nd in 1:27:29. Edel Hennessey flew the ladies flag on the day with an excellent time of 1:53:36. Well done all on Fantastic runs. Mitchelstown GR8 The Mitchelstown GR8 race held on Friday 9 August was a great success with good numbers travelling from the club. The highlight was Breda Bridges putting in another fine run and picking up first prize in the O40 category. Well done Breda and to all club members who made the trip. Breda followed up this performance by completing the Pallasgreen 10k the following Friday in a great time of 47 minutes. Kildorerry 5 Mile The Kildorerry Harriers 5 Mile held on Saturday 17 August saw a great turnout with 130 taking to the start line with club members Sean Manning and Patrick O’ Sullivan teaming up with new recruit James O Connor to take part in this very well organised event. Johnny O Sullivan of Galtee Runners was the convincing winner. Patrick O Sullivan pulled away from the chasing pack in the final mile to record and excellent time of 32:02 and second place overall with Sean Manning finishing 4th in 32:32 and James O Connor shaving several minutes off his previous time with a great time of 40 minutes. IMRA / Off Road Patrick O Sullivan and Sean Manning made the trip to Mallow on Wednesday 14 August and put in good performances in the IMRA South Munster League race in Knockarour. There was a big turnout for this 4 mile event with Patrick finishing Twenty Second in 27:45 and Sean in Thirty Third place in 28:52 Joanne Browne, Patricia Wade and Michael Fenton made the trip to Kilcornan for the Curraghchase 10k on 17 August for this scenic 10k event with almost 300 participants. All were well positioned on this tough course with Michael completing the course in 59th place in 50:09, Patricia was 136th in 60:41 and Fiona 158th in 63:20.Club Meeting There was a good turnout for a club meeting held on Thursday last 15 August with the upcoming Cross Country Season and Training the main topics up for discussion. Great to see so many at the meeting. Thanks to all for attending and to Patricia Wade for taking and posting minutes.

MooreAbbey Milers 5 mile is the next big race and we’ll hopefully see a good crowd travelling to Galbally for whats sure to be a great event. Saturday 24 August, Galbally 5 mile road race (7pm), Thursday 29August, Feenagh 5.5 mile charity fun run (7pm) Friday 30 August, Liscarroll 10k road race (7pm), Sunday 1 September, Charleville 10k fun run/walk (11am), Friday 6 Sept, Emly 13 km road race (7pm), Sunday 8 Sept, IMRA Nagles 18 km Trail, Kilavullen to Ballyhooly, Sun dat22 Sept, Charleville International Half-Marathon (10am) Friday 27 Sept Southill 6 km road race (7pm), Sunday 29 Sept. County Novice & Juvenile Cross Country - University Limerick, Sunday 13 Oct. County Intermediate & Masters Cross Country - Kilfinane. Training Saturday training will continue at 9am in Dromin. Midweek training is set to commence in the coming weeks.
