TOASTMASTERS: If your priorities include learning Communication and Leadership skills at your own pace, developing self confidence and making new friends then Toastmasters could be for you. Toastmasters is a non-profit educational corporation with headquarters in the US. Its mission is to improve the communication and leadership skills of its members. It has approx. 180,000 members in 54 countries from Australia to Malaysia to South Africa and everywhere in between. Clubs are divided up into areas, then divisions then districts and we are one of three clubs in Area 36, Division A, District 71. The other two clubs are Tralee and Killarney.
The club meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month from September to May in a safe, friendly, fun filled and affirming environment. We welcome people to come and sit in on meetings and watch proceedings before they consider joining up and guarantee that they will not be asked to participate until they decide to become a member.
The venue is the Desmond Complex with meetings from 8.30 – 10.30pm and as part of our learning we try to ensure that the meetings start and finish on time. For further information contact Donnacha on 086 8494505.
CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to Noelle Curtin a very valued member of the Glorach Youth Theatre, a sportswoman and singer of note who was chosen as a Rosebud at the Rose of Tralee, she supported the Longford Rose Aisling Farrell.
CELEBRATIONS: Abbeyfeale Credit Union are celebrating 40 years serving the community on Saturday next. There will be music, raffles, children’s entertainment and refreshments. Everyone welcome.
COMMUNITY GARDEN: The annual sale of produce from the garden will take place in the church grounds following 9.30am Mass on Sunday next, August 25. All proceeds will be donated to Trocaire.
KERRY BAR REUNION: The Kerry Bar closed 13 years ago and in honour of the year of the Gathering there’s a reunion night for its customers planned for the Winners Circle next Saturday, August 24 from 9pm. Music, finger food, craic. Everyone welcome.
ABBEYFEALE PARISH OUTING: The annual August parish outing takes place on Tuesday, August 27, leaves from the church yard at 9am and will take in Blarney, Macroom and finish in Killarney. GOLF CLASSIC: Abbeyfeale Tidy Towns Committee are going to host a fundraising golf classic at Castleisland Golf Club on Saturday, August 24 next. Teams of four €100. PRACTICAL GARDENING: As you might have seen from the posters and leaflets around town, the horticultural course running at the Abbeyfeale Community Education Centre will be running under the new title of Practical Gardening. If you want to find out more about this course and other courses running at the centre, an information evening will be held at the old vocational school on Thursday 5th September from 7.00-8.30.
FAMILY FUN DAY: The Family Fun Day at the Town Park will take place on Sunday, August 25. The forecast is good and there will be plenty of entertainment for all the family with face painting, guess the?, games etc. This is a fundraiser for the Town Park and your support would be gratefully appreciated.
PILGRIMAGE TO FINAL DAY OF KNOCK NOVENA: The theme of the final day of the Knock Novena on Thursday, August 22 is ‘Faith, Heritage and looking to the future’ with preacher Fr. Listowel Castle - Lecture ‘Revolution in North Kerry 1913 -1923’ On Thursday, August 22 at 7.30 pm author and local Historian Tim Horgan will give an illustrated lecture on Revolution in North Kerry 1913 -1923 exploring incidents from the War of Independence & Civil War in North Kerry, with a special focus on events in the Listowel Area. ABBEYFEALE CONNECTS: West Limerick Connects is a free phone call service operating out of three Day Care Centres in West Limerick (Abbeyfeale, Glin and Newcastle West). Through this project, phone calls are made to older people who may be living alone, at a fixed time every week to check on their wellbeing and inform them of local events and services. ABBEY HERITAGE TRAINING INITIATIVE: The Abbey Heritage Project in Abbeyfeale is pleased to announce its new F.E.T.A.C. Level 3 Certificate in Employability Skills starting in September 2013 which will offer the following modules: Application of Numbers, Career Preparation, Communications, Computer Literacy, Media Expression, Desktop Publishing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Internet Skills & Work Experience. AUTUMN FAIR: The Desmond complex are holding an Autumn Fair on Sunday, August 25 from l pm to 6 pm. It’s a day for all the family with games for the children, face painting, stalls selling a variety of goods and live music. We will also be selling lines for a draw with some fabulous prizes. The 1st prize is two nights B&B in the Vienna Woods Hotel, Cork, 2nd prize is a signed Limerick jersey kindly sponsored by Adrenalin Sports and 3rd prize is one month’s membership of the Woodlands Hotel Leisure Centre. There are lots of other prizes which are too numerous to mention that have been sponsored by businesses in the Newcastle West and West Limerick area. The fair is a fundraiser and also an occasion for the locals to have a look at our impressive facilities and find out what we do. The group offer support and friendship to people who may be experiencing difficulty in life. People who suffer from anxiety depression isolation loneliness shyness or finding it difficult to communicate are most welcome to come along and no introductions are necessary.
