CONGRATULATIONS : Congratulations to local hurler Richard McCarthy on his Man of The Match display in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final on Sunday last 9 June at Pairc na nGael when defeating Tipperary in a great game by 1.18 to 1.15. also to Paudie Leahy and Mike Duggan who played on the Intermediate and Primary Schools teams respectively.
INTERMEDIATE HURLERS IN CHAMPIONSHIP THIS SATURDAY : On this Saturday evening, 15 June, Hospital is the venue for the round two of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship game where Blackrock will play Monaleen at 7.30pm. Both sides scored victories in the opening round, Blackrock defeating Knockaderry while Monaleen overcame Pallasgreen, which means that the winners of this game would almost be guaranteed a Quarter Final place. The sides last met in the All County League 2012 Monaleen playing at home scored victory, but championship fare is different and Blackrock will be hoping to reverse that result and take a step closer to the knockout stages.
JUNIOR HURLERS ARE SOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS : On Saturday evening last 8 June the Junior side played Dromin Athlacca in the Dan Dooley Ford Centre Knocklong sponsored South Junior ‘B’ Hurling league Final in Knocklong and it was Blackrock who were crowned champions with a well deserved 4.14 to 3.08 victory after a lapse of 21 years. Blackrock laid down a marker in the opening minutes where they completely dominated and as the half came to an there was a margin of eleven points between the sides on a 4.08 to 1.03 score line The goals coming from Pa Cleary, James O’Doherty and Anthony Palmer. Dromin Atlacca came more into the game in the second half but Blackrock were not to be denied on this occasion. The Blackrock team was : James McGrath, Brain Coughlan, Eamon Coughlan, Eoin Quinn, Josh Slattery, Mike Roche, Vincent Herbert, David Healy, Don O’Flaherty, Eddie O’Keeffe, Kenneth Douglas, James O’Doherty, James Heffernan, Patrick Cleary, Anthony Palmer. Substitutes :TG Ryan for E Quinn, Ger Quane for E O’Keeffe. Tommy Lee for J. McGrath. Blackrock will now play the East Champions in the County League Semi Final.
KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB : KILFINANE 5 MILE Friday 21 June, After a busy few weeks for club members it’s all hands to the pump as we prepare for the annual Kilfinane 5 Mile road race, with this the third year of the event. Numbers of participants have increased significantly in recent years and a good turnout is expected again this year. The team have been working hard to ensure this year’s event is another success and we hope to see plenty new faces taking to the roads around Kilfinane on Friday 21 June. On line entry is available on Run Ireland. https://eventmaster.ie/ The race starts at 7.30pm and there are good prizes on offer this year including first 3 Men/Women and Male/Female 035, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and top 3 junior boys/girls and there will also be a club team prize for the first male/female team of 4. Walkers will start at 7.15pm. Registration opens at 6pm. This years registration and prize giving is at Scoil Pol Kilfinane where changing facilities will be available for participants. We’ll aim to be more efficient than ever with results and after race grub guaranteed to be top drawer. Training on the Kilfinane AC 5 mile route has been a great success over the last 3 weeks with the final training session on the route taking place this Sunday 16 June at 7pm and is a great opportunity for anyone running the race to try out the route. UPCOMING EVENTS : Bilboa 10K Friday 14June at 7pm, Ballyclough 5K Saturday 15 June, Kilfinane 5 Mile Friday 21 June 7.30pm. Angelsborough 10K Friday 28 June at 8pm. MARTINSTOWN N.S. REUNION: Martinstown National School are holding a reunion for past pupils on 6 July 2013. There will be mass offered for all deceased past pupils at 8pm in Martinstown Church followed by a gathering in the Cosy Kitchen Bar, Elton. All past pupils are welcome for a night of meeting old friends, reliving old memories, chit chat and story telling. There will also be light refreshments available on the night. First up is a visit to Bernie McEnery’s garden Moanwing in Rathkeale on Thursday 20 June with meeting time for the garden tour scheduled for 7pm This is a beautiful flower garden with a small vegetable part which is very stylishly designed.. Wherever you look it holds your interest and is one not to be missed. Bernie is a well seasoned gardener and is always willing to share her knowledge.
