Gala WeekEnd: Arrangements are being made by Meanus Social Club for the Gala Weekend which they are holding in conjunction with “The Gathering” on 28th, 29th and 30th June. Some of the events taking place will include Family Fun Quiz on Friday night, 28th June, Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, 29th June commencing at 1 p.m. On Saturday night everybody is invited to an evening of Music, Song and Dance at the Community Centre, which will commence at 8.30 p.m. On Sunday, 30th of June the Sportsfield will be a hive of activity commencing with Underage Hurling and Camogie games followed by sports for the children with the usual cup of tea available, then on to the Camogue River for the very popular Duck Race. The weekend will draw to a close with the usual Sunday night Game of cards. It is hoped to have a Photographic Exhibition in the Community Centre during the weekend and the committee are appealing to anybody with suitable old photos of Meanus to hand them in in a sealed envelope with their name to Catherine Murnane or Ursula Lillis by Friday, 21st June, where they will be on display in the Community Centre during the Gathering Weekend and returned safely to their owners after the weekend.

Saggart Pilgrimage: The Annual Saggart Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place this year from 22nd to 27th September. For booking forms or further information please contact Fr. Joe Foley at 087 2618412 or Eileen Irwin at 087 6628288.

Milford Hospice: A major fundraising drive for Milford Hospice entitled “Walk of Life” will be held on October 19th 2013 and will be launched shortly. Leading up to that, every parish in the county is being asked to hold a fundraising event in their own area. A meeting will be held on next Monday night in Meanus Community Centre at 9pm to discuss an event in Meanus. Anyone interested in getting involved or looking for more information is asked to attend the meeting. Further details can be had from Gerard Murnane on 087/6535030.

GAA Notes: In the South Final of the Junior B Football League played in Hospital recently Camogue Rovers snatched victory in the final minutes from Galtee Gaels which gave Rovers the title and the P.J. Cussen Cup. The final score was 1-10 to 1-09.

The team was Seamus O Loughlin, Barry O Connor, James Conway, Tadhg McCarthy, John Ryan, Peadar McCarthy, Gareth Creamer, Jonathan Cosgrove (0-2), Michael Collins, Billy Hogan (0-3), Antony Punch (0-5), Antony Nealon, Arthur Riordan, Shane Barry and Michael Lynch (Captain). Subs used: Mark Hartigan (1-0) and Michael Maloney.

They now play Fedamore in the County Semi-final on this Thursday night in Crecora commencing at 7.30 p.m.

Bord Na nOg: We held our first ever Long Puc on the bank holiday Monday in aid of raising funds for the Feile boys panel which turned out to be a great success with over 40 teams participating. Young & old were involved with great Craic had by all. We wish to extend a big thank you to all, especially the organizers and all those who helped on the day with the event. We would like also to thank all who supported & played in this event. We’d be hoping, based on the success, that this will be an annual event for the Juvenile Club. Winners: overall - John A Moran, Mike Shea & Craig Finn . Juvenile team section: Winners - Mick O Hara , David Gardner & David Mulqueen, 2nd James Riordan , Bradley McNamara & James O Neill , 3rd Roger Mulqueen , Patrick O Rourke & Oisin Mulqueen . County Senior Hurling Championship: Congratulations to Paul Browne who was part of the Limerick Team who had an outstanding win over Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds on last Sunday. It sure gave a long overdue lift to all GAA fans in the County and every success and good luck is wished to the whole panel as they take on the winners of Clare and Cork in the Munster Final on the 14th July.

Smoke Alarms: The Fire Brigade is installing free Smoke Alarms to the elderly or persons living alone. Anybody interested should contact Fr. Joe Foley at 087 2618412 or Hanora Horan (Parish Secretary) at 061 389033 between 9.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday with your name, address and phone number and we will pass on your details to the Fire Brigade. They will then contact you and arrange a date and time as to when they will install your free Smoke Alarm.

Lough Gur Summer Solstice Festival: An action packed week is being organized in Lough Gur coinciding with the Summer Solstice from June 20th to June 25th.

Events will include Fun Table Quiz, Long Walk for a long Day, Drumming Workshop, Arts and Crafts Workshop, Photography Workshop, Skittles Tournament etc. Sunday 23rd June sees a Family Fun day by the lakeside with numerous and varied side shows.
