Meelick Parteen Electoral Boundary: Following the recent announcement of the local electoral boundary changes the big news locally is that Parteen and Meelick have been reunited for local election purposes and will now be in the Shannon area for the 2014 local elections. This means that from Athlunkard Bridge to Ardnacrusha to include Blackwater and Parteen will now move from the Kilalloe area to Shannon.The news was welcomed by local Cclr. Cathal Crowe whose area was split in half at the last local elections and expressed the view that reuniting the Parish as a positive move and “Iwill definitely be putting my name forward. It is understood that Fine Gael are working behind the scenes to produce a candidate and pressure may be put on one of the “Dagger” Mc Mahon brothers to put their name forward. A local Fine Gael activist said “we must move quickly as the election is less than 12 months away.

School Building: Work on the extension to Parteen School is progressing satisfactorily and is ready for roofing and it is hoped will be ready for September.

Parteen GAA: Parteen were slow of the blocks and conceded 1-02 in the first ten minutes of this Clare cup match against Killenana at Lanahrone. The home team fought back well and went in trailing 2-04 to 1-08 at half time. The second half was a well fought contest with Parteen leading by two points going towards full time.The never say die attitude of Killenana saw them win a 21 yard free. They goaled from this to put them a point up. Parten didn’t throw in the towel either and worked the ball up field and Brian McSweeney got a brilliant equaliser in injury time. Final score 2-13 each. Parteen St. Nicholas Lotto Draw: Lotto draw took place at Larkin’s bar on Monday 3rd June .

Numbers drawn were: 07, 08, 19 & 21. There was no overall winner. Lucky dip winners were: Paraic O’Doherty Lackyle Ardnacrusha; Tom McDonnell Quinpool Parteen; Bobby O’Connell Ballycar, Ardnacrusha; Jamie McMahon, Landscape Hse Clonlara; Paddy Kelly, Doonbeg and Rita Daly Derrafada, Clonlara.

Next weeks draw (Sun 9th June) takes place at Pascal’s bar for a jackpot of €20,000.

Pilgrimage to Knock: The annual Parteen/ Meelick/Coonagh pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday June 16th starting at Parteen at 8.20am through Ardnacrusha and Meelick and if requested, they will stop at the Coonagh roundabout should the need arise. Those interested in travelling should procure their tickets immediately from Mary Dillon or Mary White.

Death: The sudden death occurred recently of David Clancy of Gillogue, husband of Carrie who for many years operates the shop and petrol station at Eamon Griffins, Blackwater.

The late Mr Clancy worked for many years at the General Post Office in Limerick and was very popular among colleagues friends and neighbours.

There was a very large and representative attendance at the removal from McMahons Funeral Home to Clonlara Church and at the burial in Doon Cemetary, County Limerick.

Mr Clancy is survived by his Wife Carrie and Father of Marie and Ceran, Grandchildren and sisters.
