Golden Wedding Anniversary: Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Joan and Brendan Duggan, School Road Ardagh, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday 12th October.

Wedding Wishes: Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Aine Brouder, Glenbawn, Carrigkerry and Seamus Fitzgerald Garnafulla, Waterville, County Kerry who were married in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Glin , on Friday 27th September. The celebrant was Fr Tom Crawford and the Reception was held in the Killarney Heights Hotel.

Congratulations and best wishes: in the future to Kieran Trant, Monemohill, and Monica Rowley, Kilmorna, Abbeyfeale who were married in Saint Bridgid’s Church Duagh, on Saturday 28th September. The celebrant was Fr Pat Moore, and the Reception was held in the Brehon Hotel Killarney.

Limerick GAA Club Draw: The Limerick GAA Club draw for October was held at An Trasnan Bar, Ballylanders on Friday 4th. Congratulations to Ger Duggan from the Saint Kieran’s club who won 10th prize of € 250. The next draw will be held in the Croke Park Bar Croagh, on Friday 1st November.

Gaelic Games: Jason Mullins from the Saint Kieran’s GAA Club was the referee for the West Limerick Junior A Hurling Championship Final played in Newcastle West Gaelic Grounds on Sunday 6th October.

Congratulations: to Linda Lodge from Coolcappa, who was a member of the New South Wales Ladies Football team that won the Australasian Senior Ladies State Cup on Sunday 6th October.

Saint Kieran’s lost by 3-9 to 0-18 to Monaleen in the County Intermediate Hurling Cup Final in Ballyagran Gaelic Grounds on Sunday 6th October. The teams were level at half-time, but a last gasp goal from a close in free, denied Saint Kieran’s the silverware. Sean Finn’s/Saint Kieran’s drew with Oola 2-7 each in the County Premier Minor Football Championship final group match, to progress to the County semi- final against Father Casey’s.

Soccer News: The Desmond League lost 3-2 to the Galway League, in the Oscar Traynor Trophy Inter-league Cup Group 2 Round 1 played in Eamon Deacy Park Galway on Saturday 5th October. Carrig Celtic players Anthony Molyneaux, and Seán Mc Sweeney started and Ray Cahill was introduced as a sub.

Creeves Celtic defeated Feenagh 6-1 away in Division 2 of the Desmond League on Sunday, and Carrig Celtic B defeated Broadford B 4-3 at home in Division 3.

Carrig Celtic defeated Kilbehenny 2-1 at home in Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League, with both goals being scored by Anne Mc Sweeney.

Christmas Cards: Christmas Cards from Carrigkerry are available for sale in Moloney’s Shop Carrigkerry with the proceeds going towards the proposed Carrigkerry Playground. They cost €1-50 each or a pack of five for € 5. There are several different winter scenes to choose from and support for this fundraiser will be greatly appreciated.

Journal Material Wanted: The editors of the Athea Parish Journal, Ballyguiltenane Rural Journal, and Castlemahon/Feohanagh Parish Annual are seeking suitable material articles and photos for this year’s publications. The deadlines are fast approaching so people are urged to compile same and submit in the coming week or so.

Deer Crossing: In recent years a number of deer have taken up residence in the many forest plantations around the locality. The month of October sees the rutting season in progress, and as a result the deer are moving freely from plantations to plantations. Signs are in place in some areas to warn people of the dangers of deer crossing the roads. More need to be put in place as they increase in number and people need to be aware of their existence. The message is to be careful at present driving along rural roads near forestry.

Card Season Resumes: The card games will recommence at the Community Centre Ardagh on Tuesday 15th October at 9pm. Cards will resume at The Flag Floor Rambling House, Glensharrold on Wednesday 16th October at 9pm, tea served and all are welcome at both venues.

Rambling House Tour: The Irish Rambling House Tour of England takes place from Wednesday 16th October at Leamington, Spa, Thursday 17th October Birmingham Irish Centre, Friday 18th October Camden Irish Centre (afternoon show) Saturday 18th October Salvatorian College Hall Harrow. Showband Concert: A showband concert will be held in Shanagolden Hall on Friday 18th October at 8-30 pm. The proceeds will go towards the development work on Captain Tim Madigan Park. A top class lineup of showband stars will feature similar to the recent concert which was so successful earlier in the year. The tickets cost € 25 and can be got from committee members and local businesses in the area.

Suicide Awareness: A Safe-Talk seminar on suicide awareness will be held in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday 24th October. Newcastle West and District Lions Club and the HSE are joining up to present this seminar. The event is free to all clubs associations, organizations, and individuals in West Limerick. Car Boot Sale: A car boot sale in aid of West Limerick 102 Community Radio will be held on Sunday 27th October at Newcastle West Community Centre. The gates open at 7.30am and admission is only €2. To book a table and additional information from 069-66200.

Afternoon Tea Dancing: Afternoon tea dancing returns to Carrigkerry Community Centre on Sunday 27th October from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. Music by John Sullivan and Alpine Sound and the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Community Centre. The organizers would appreciate more local support as the majority of the dancers come from outside the area.

Gary Mc Mahon Weekend: The West Limerick Singing Club will hold the 5th Annual Gary Mc Mahon singing weekend in Abbeyfeale from Friday November 1st to Sunday November 3rd. The event will include singing sessions in the Ramble Inn and Leens Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. Workshop on composing traditional ballads is on at Saint Ita’s Hall on Saturday morning from 10.30am to 1pm. The newly composed ballad competition will be held on Saturday afternoon in the Ramble Inn at 4pm. Aifreann an Riocht on Sunday at 12 noon in the Church. A tribute to Pat Brosnon on Sunday at 3pm, in Father Casey’s GAA Clubhouse. The tutors for the event will be Joe O’Connor, and Seamus Brogan, and all are welcome.

Dromcollogher Fashion Fundraiser: Dromcollogher Respite Care Centre will host a fashion fundraising event on Friday November 1st at 8pm in the Day Care Centre, Dromcollogher. Any items of unwanted new or nearly new clothing shoes and accessories would be very welcome for this fundraiser. The clothing may be dropped at the Respite Care Centre. Tickets cost €10 which includes a glass of champagne on admission, free raffle on door ticket, and finger food. Ballyloughane Reunion: The Ballyloughane School reunion has been fixed for Sunday 3rd November, in Carrigkerry Community Centre. A number of meetings have taken place and a programme of events is being planned at present. The organizers would appreciate articles, and photos, for a booklet they are publishing to mark the contribution the school made to education in the area.
