U16 HURLERS COUNTY CHAMPIONS: Pallasgreen U16 hurling team were crowned county champions after a pulsating victory over a fancied Mungret side in Bruff last Sunday evening. The large Pallasgreen support witnessed a game full of character, determination and some wonderful hurling to take the title on a 2-9 to 0-12 scoreline. The first half was evenly contested with Alan Cosgrave keeping the scoreboard ticking over with some delightful frees. But enter Davy Hannon who was a threat everytime he got near the ball, struck just on the stroke of halftime with a great goal to put some daylight between the sides 1-7 to 0-4 in Pallas favour. On the resumption Hannon after five minutes again was tormentor in chief as he bagged his second goal and Pallas were in the driving seat 2-7 to 0-4. Alan Cosgrave added a pointed free for a 2-8 to 0-4 lead. Credit to the Mungret side who showed their battling qualities scored seven points without reply and the momentum had swung to the city side and the tension was now palpable in the cold autumn air. However the Pallas defence were defiant and brave and another free by Alan Cosgrave seemed to clinch it. There was one last act to play as Mungret send over a free to leave a goal between the sides with time almost up. The final whistle blew and the celebrations began for Pallasgreen after what was a thrilling game of hurling between two fine teams. Final scoreline Pallasgreen 2-9 Mungret 0-12. After the game Chairman of the County Bord na nOg Tony Roche presented the cup to captain Dion Wallace.

MUNSTER RUGBY: Promising young GAA star switched allegiances for brief moment to represent his province in Rugby. Brian Fanning of Deerpark played with the Munster U18 Rugby side who defeated Ulster 18 side in Musgrave Park Cork last weekend in the Interprovincial series. Their 24-6 win however was not enough for them to claim the series as Leinster’s victory over Connaught saw them come on top. Well done to Brian on his representation of his province and best wishes to him on his sporting career.

GAA NEWS: Our Junior B hurlers took on Blackrock on Sunday in the County quarter-final in Bruff. A strong showing in the first half with Shane Murphy tapping over the frees and points from play from Shane, John Kirby and Conor O’Dwyer saw Pallasgreen go in at the break leading by nine points to seven. Blackrock started off strongly in the second half. Pallasgreen picked themselves up late on and through the accurate shooting of Shane Murphy were able to draw level with just minutes to spare. Extra time however saw the small size of the Pallasgreen squad tell, and with only one substitute available tired legs were not afforded a rest. Blackrock pulled away at the death to win by 1-17 to 0-15.

Scorers were: Shane Murphy 0-10 (8 frees, 1 “65”), Conor O’Dwyer 0-3, John Kirby 0-2. Our U-6, U-8 and U-10 teams were involved in a hurling blitz in Doon on Saturday where they gave a good exhibition of their skills.

Congratulations to all the players who took part on the day, and well done.
