MPCC CREDIT UNION: Congratulations are extended to the under 13 team from St. Nessan’s Primary School, Mungret who performed so well to win their section at the recent Chapter Final of the Credit Unions School Quiz . The team will now represent their School, and MPCC Credit Union, in the National Finals which are taking place in the R D S in Dublin this Sunday, 7 April. Over 25,000 school children under the age of 13 commenced the competition in over 300 venues throughout the thirty two counties of Ireland, making this year’s one of the most popular and successful promotions undertaken by the Credit Union movement; only 400 competitors, making up 100 teams, have made it through to Sunday’s Finals. This represents therefore an extraordinary achievement for the St. Nessan’s team, and they are wished the very best of luck.

EASTER DUES: Easter dues envelopes have been distributed in the Parish, and submission of dues will be very much appreciated. Additional envelopes are available in the three Parish Churches, for the convenience of any Parishioner who may not have been supplied with one already.

TROCAIRE BOXES: Proceeds of this year’s Trocaire Lenten Campaign, which were not submitted during the Easter Ceremonies, should be submitted this weekend, 6/7 April, if at all possible. Envelopes containing donations can be dropped into the collection baskets at any of the weekend Masses in the Parish, or handed into the Parish Office if necessary. A special envelope, to facilitate the submission of this year’s proceeds, was included in the Trocaire packs which were available in the Parish Churches throughout Lent; a number of such packs are still available. Alternatively, an ordinary envelope marked “Trocaire” will suffice. It will be very much appreciated by those involved in safeguarding, counting and submitting the monies afterwards if individual offerings can be converted into notes or cheques beforehand. A generous response to this year’s appeal will have the effect of improving the daily standard of living for thousands of the World’s poorest people. BAPTISM MEETING: A Baptism meeting is being held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen this Thursday evening, 4 April, at 7.30pm; parents whose babies are about to be baptised are obliged to attend this meeting. Baptism meetings, organised by the Parish Baptism team, are held in the Millennium Centre, Raheen on the first Thursday of each month, commencing at 7.30pm. The purpose of these meetings is to assist with preparation for receiving the Sacrament; parents, and godparents if possible, who reside in the parish, and who intend having their child baptised, are strongly encouraged to attend one of these meetings, where all of the information which they require regarding the Sacrament of Baptism will be made available to them.

CHURCH CLEANING: Volunteers are urgently required to assist with the weekly cleaning of the Church in Raheen. Anyone interested in helping out, and who has an hour to spare on Thursdays, is welcome to leave their name and contact no. into the Church sacristy in Raheen.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL: The next meeting of the Mungret/Crecora/Raheen Parish Pastoral Council will be held on Tuesday next, 9 April, at 8.15pm in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Members of the Pastoral Council are requested to please note this date, and to attend the meeting.

ST. JOSEPH’S YOUNG PRIESTS: The monthly meeting of the local St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society will be held on Wednesday next, 10 April, at 8pm in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the work of the Society is welcome to come along to any of the monthly meetings, which are held on the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of July and August.

FASHION SHOW: A Fashion Show in aid of the Limerick Youth Pilgrimage group has been arranged to take place at the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare on Tuesday week, 16 April at 8pm. A cheese and wine reception will precede the Fashion Show, and a prize will be awarded to the Best Dressed Lady and the Trendiest Man on the night! Live entertainment will be provided at the interval by a number of the young people who are organising the event. Tickets cost €20 and are available by contacting Maria Bucke at 086-2619955, Diarmaid Bucke at 085-1418012 or Philip Desmond at 085-1434644 ; they will also be available at the door on the night. Every year, ninety young people from various parts of the Limerick Diocese travel to Lourdes as part of the Diocesan Pilgrimage. They go there as volunteers and spend the week working as helpers, transporting invalids to and from the various Ceremonies. The generosity of these young people ensures that the Diocese is able to include many invalids as part of its annual visit to Lourdes. All monies raised by means of the Fashion Show will go towards the costs of the Youth Pilgrimage.

CRECORA OLD GRAVEYARD: A Restoration Project is commencing at the Old Graveyard in Crecora, which is located in this Parish - the “Ballyhoura Survey of Crecora Old Graveyard”. Volunteers are required for the purpose of recording names on headstones and on grave markers. All of the information gathered will, in due course, be recorded on a website set up for this purpose.

MACRA NA FEIRME: The next meeting of Raheen Macra Na Feirme (Limerick City Branch) will take place on Wednesday, 10 April, in the Unicorn Bar, Dooradoyle at 8pm; the Raheen Branch holds Club meetings at this venue on the second Wednesday of each month. Anyone interested in becoming involved in Macra is welcome to come along to any of these monthly gatherings. Information regarding local Macra activities can also be obtained by accessing the website www.limerickmacra.ie

MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSES: Anyone wishing to partake in the Marriage Preparation courses run by the Catholic “Accord” agency should note that booking of places is advisable six months in advance of the intended date of participation. COFFEE MORNING - “PARKINSONS”: Local readers may wish to support a fundraising Coffee Morning, organised by the Mid West Branch of the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland, which will take place on Thursday next, 11 April , at Bobby Byrne’s (Wolfe Tone) Bar, O’Connell Avenue, Limerick from 10am to 11.30am. The event is being held in conjunction with Parkinsons Awareness Week, to assist in raising much needed funds for the ongoing provision of services to Parkinsons patients. Services provided by the Association include information meetings which are addressed by guest speakers, hydrotherapy, physical therapy and vocal training, among others. All of the Association’s income is sourced through voluntary effort; support for the forthcoming coffee morning therefore will be especially welcome.

“ADORATION”: Adoration of The Blessed Eucharist takes place each Friday in Raheen Church following 10am Mass until 10pm. Adoration also takes place in Mungret Church on Wednesdays from 10am until 12noon, as well as in Crecora Church on Thursdays, following 9.15am Mass until 12noon and from 6pm until 10pm.

BRIDGE CLUB: The Social Bridge Club holds its weekly get togethers at the Millennium Centre, in Raheen on Monday mornings, commencing at 10am.

SET DANCING: Set Dancing classes take place in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse; beginners classes are held on Tueday evenings, commencing at 9pm, while Advanced classes are held on Thursday evenings, also at 9pm. Anyone who is interested in Set Dancing is welcome to attend.

MUNGRET CARE CENTRE: The authorities at Mungret Care Centre wish to express their gratitude to everyone in this Parish who contributed so generously to their recent collection.

MUNGRET REGIONAL SOCCER CLUB: Mungret Regional Soccer Club would welcome new members into its girls’ under 12 and under 14 teams; anyone interested is welcome to come to the Club grounds any Wednesday evening at 5pm.

UNWANTED SPECTACLES (GLASSES): An opportunity to dispose of no longer required spectacles is presently available at the County Library in Dooradoyle, by way of a collection box arranged there by the International Lions Club. By bringing along unwanted spectacles to this location, you will be helping poor people in underdeveloped Countries who require spectacles but cannot afford them. The International Lions Club, who are to be highly commended for this initiative, will ensure that the donated spectacles (and hopefully there will be many, by way of response to this appeal) will be made available to those people in need.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE: This year’s official Limerick Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from Friday, June 21 to Wednesday, June 26, and will be led by Limerick’s new Bishop, Brendan Leahy. Departure will, as usual, be from Shannon Airport, and return from Lourdes Tarbes Airport. The fully inclusive fare is €699; the Invalid fare is €599. Places in the Invalid section are limited, and the closing date for this section is Tuesday, 30 April. Any additional information can be obtained by contacting the Lourdes Pilgrimage Office at Limerick Social Service Centre, Henry Street, Limerick, tel. 314111; office opening hours there are Monday, 2pm to 4.30pm; Tuesday, 10.30am to 1pm; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 4.30pm. Any Parishioner who wishes to be considered for inclusion as a member of the Pilgrimage’s invalid section, in particular, should make application without delay. As regards the Pilgrimage in general, early booking is, as always, very much recommended.
