Shanagolden Community Council: Captain Tim Madigan sports development: The Development of the walkway has been granted, under the public procurement process, to Frank Riordan Plant Hire and the contract for the building of the dressing rooms is now at e-tender stage. To continue raising the local contribution towards both of these projects a number of important Fund Raising Events are being organised and the support of the general public is requested: A concert featuring The Stars of The Showband Era-Paddy Cole, Louise Morrissey, Ray Lynam, Shaun O’Dowd, Crystal Swing and Lorraine Mc Donald and the Conquerors will be held in Shanagolden Dance Hall on Friday 21st June at 8.30pm. Tickets 25 euro on sale locally and from Community Council members. Siamsa Shanagolden 15th to 18th August, a weekend with Ceili, Teen Disco, Barn dance and Sports and novelty events in the field. Further details later. There will also be a 5k Run/Walk in September. Celtic Tenors will be in concert in Shanagolden Church on Saturday 21st December. As well as the above fundraising events we also need the ongoing regular support of the weekly bingo, Cards and Lotto. We thank all the promoters and helpers at these weekly events as the monies raised at these events is vital to the fundraising project.

Shanid Historical Society: On Sunday 2 June 2013 the Shanid Historical Society would like to invite you to Foynes for a tour and lecture by Sean Diffley on local history featuring Foynes’ Port, Monument, railway and village. Assemble in the Square in Foynes at 4:00 pm. Members and non-members are welcome to attend. This is a free event so do come along and support us. Foynes Irish Coffee Festival: The festival will take place from 31st May to June 2nd. We are looking for volunteers to help out over the weekend. Anyone interested can contact a committe member or go to the festival website www.foynesfestival.com. Foynes is hosting its first 5K Run on the Sunday of the Festival (2nd June). All proceeds will go to charity. Walkers can register on the day for a fee of 5euro. You can register online atwww.precissiontiming.primo-solutions.co.uk/ps/event/foynes5k2013. Our charity this year is Tipperary/Limerick/Clare for Cystic Fibrosis. Please support this worthy cause.

SUPPORTING CHILDREN THROUGH BEREAVEMENT: The Newcastle West Family and Community Hub (located upstairs at the NCW Community Centre) will be holding a workshop on Wednesday June 12th on supporting children with bereavement or coping with a dying family member. Running from 7.30-9.30pm, the session will be led by Child Psychologist and Play Therapist Tina O’Brien and funded by the Compassionate Communities Project with the support of West Limerick Resources.

RAINBOWS SUPPORT SERVICES: A workshop of Rainbows volunteers and those interested in volunteering with the project in West Limerick this September will take place in the Newcastle West Family and Community Hub (located at the Community Centre) on Wednesday June 19th from 7.30-9.30pm. “Rainbows” is a peer support programme for children aged 6-10 years grieving as a result of a loss or separation and is managed locally by West Limerick Resources. Run by trained volunteers, the programme is positive, gentle confidential and encouraging however it is not counselling or therapy service. It is instead a safe, confidential setting where children can share their grief associated feelings with each other and with these trained facilitators.

TRADITIONAL LIME MORTAR TRAINING: West Limerick Resources will be offering a one week training programme (Monday-Friday, 9.30am-4pm approx) on the use of traditional lime mortar to members of local communities who are interested in undertaking simple conservation and repair work at historic sites (such as graveyards) subject to the necessary permission and guidance of Limerick County Council Archaeologist. This hands—on training initiative is free to those interested in becoming involved in conservation and enhancement work. Limited places available. Registration essential.
