PRESIDENT VISITS LOCALITY: The President of the GAA Mr Liam O’Neill paid a visit to the parish last week as part of the launch of Feile na nGael 2013/2014. He was on a tour of Limerick visiting schools along with some county players and officials. His tour made a surprise vist to Barna last Thursday where he visited the Danny Beary Museum and brief stop at Barna National School. He spent almost an hour in the museum and was intrigued on the wonderful artefacts, memorabilia and everything that’s associated in the GAA. Danny Beary who has built up the museum over a long number of years collecting photographs, books, programmes, medals etc was officially opened o the public in 2010 by President of the East Limerick GAA Board Eddie Wade. The museum has produced a venue that illustrates the GAA’s unique sporting heritage in hurling and football.
A large crowd had gathered to greet the Laois native Liam O’Neill and gave him a very special welcome. He was gobsmacked by the vast amount of GAA material on show in a hamlet of rural Ireland that he promised he would make a return visit to Barna. Later Pat Cronin on behalf of Pallasgreen GAA Club made a presentation to President. He presented him with a book of the clubs history and a club tie.. The GAA President visit to Barna was a historic one and one that will be certainly enshrined into Danny’s museum
