SENIOR PARISHIONERS PARTY: The Mungret/Raheen Senior Parishioners Annual Christmas Party is taking place this Sunday, 27 January, at the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare. Admission will be by ticket only, with tickets available from the usual sources.
‘KEEPING SAFE’ PROGRAMME: A Training session, with regard to the ‘Keeping Safe’ (Child Protection) Programme, has been arranged for Thursday evening next, 31 January, at the Millennium Centre, Raheen. This Training will be of particular interest to all those working with children or vulnerable adults in the Parish. Further information can be obtained by contacting the Parish Office at 061-210869.
YOUNG AT HEART: An amendment to an Item under this heading in last week’s Notes; the local Young At Heart Club has not yet resumed its weekly get togethers , following the Christmas and New Year breaks. It is expected that activities will get under way again during February; these Notes will include a mention to that effect when the resumption date is to hand. In summary, the Club meets at Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am until 12noon. Any retired person residing in the Parish - Mungret/Crecora/Raheen - who would be interested in the Club’s activities is welcome to come along for a cup of tea and a chat, when the get togethers resume.
M P C C - SCHOOLS QUIZ: Local Schools who have entered teams in the 2013 Credit Union Schools Quiz are reminded that the local preliminary round of the Quiz has been organised by the local MPCC Credit Union for Friday week, 1 February, at 8pm in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse.
ALTAR SERVERS: A Training Session for altar servers in the three Churches in the Parish - Raheen Mungret and Crecora - has been arranged for thursday week, 7 February, in Raheen Church at 7.30pm. The training will be provided by staff from the Diocesan Pastoral Centre. New altar servers are always welcome in each of the Churches!
SET DANCING: Set Dancing classes take place in Mungret/St. Paul’s GAA Clubhouse; beginners classes are held on Tueday evenings, commencing at 9pm, while Advanced classes are held on Thursday evenings, also at 9pm. Anyone who is interested in Set Dancing is welcome to attend.
ST. NESSAN’’S PRIMARY SCHOOL: Parents wishing to have their child enrolled in the Junior Infant classes at St. Nessan’s Primary School, Mungret for the school year 2013/2014 are requested to note that the closing date for receipt of completed applications for that year is Monday, 4 February, 2013 at 1pm. Applications received after that deadline will not be processed. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the School office at St. Nessan’s or by way of downloading from the School’s website www.stnessans.ie
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK: This Sunday, 27 January, marks the commencement of this year’s Catholic Schools Week. The purpose of the Week is to highlight and celebrate the very significant contribution which Catholic Schools make to our local Communities, as well as to Society in general. The theme of this year’s event is “Catholic Schools in the Community of Faith: Sharing the Good News”.
WEEKLY ENVELOPE BOXES: Weekly envelope boxes, containing envelopes for each Sunday of the year 2013, have been distributed throughout the Parish; any Parishioner who has not been supplied with a box of envelopes, and who would wish to receive one, is welcome to contact the Parish Office, tel. 061-210869.
PARISH NEWSLETTER: Contributions for inclusion in the weekly parish newsletter should be submitted to the parish office, tel. 210869, by 12noon on Thursdays, at the latest, prior to publication that weekend. Any submissions, which should be in writing, received after that deadline cannot be guaranteed inclusion in that weekend’s newsletter.
FIRST FRIDAY: Friday next week, 1 February, is the First Friday of the month; daily Mass in the Parish Churches will be at the usual times, with a 7.30pm Evening Mass in Raheen Church also. Holy Communion will, as usual, be brought to the sick and housebound by the Priests of the Parish.
PIONEER ASSOCIATION: The monthly meeting of the local Pioneer Centre takes place next Friday evening, 1 February, in the Millennium Centre, Raheen. Anyone who wishes to become a Pioneer, or who is already a Pioneer and wishes to become a member of the Raheen Centre, or who wishes to obtain information regarding the services provided by the Centre, is welcome to come along to the monthly meeting.
LECTURES - CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY: Parishioners may be interested to note that a series of Public Lectures, to celebrate the Year of Faith, has been organised by the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Mary Immaculate College, South Circular Road. This Lecture series is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to come along. The initial Lecture will be delivered on Tuesday week, 5 February, at 5pm when Professor Eamonn Conway will address the topic “The New Evangelisation: Opportunities and Challenges”; subsequent Lectures will be delivered on successive Tuesday evenings at the same commencement times, all dealing with a Christian Spirituality - related topic. The Lectures will take place in Room 202 at Mary Immaculate College.
