SYMPATHY: It was with much sadness we learned on Sunday morning last, January 13 of the death at the Regional Hospital, Limerick of Margaret Doody-Scully, Broadford and formerly of Kilfinny, Adare and Ballinska, Feohanagh.
Margaret was a well known writer and poet and a popular historian, and only three months ago her latest edition “Inside Looking Out” book of poetry and prose was launched at the library, Newcastle West by the well known poet Gabriel Fitzmaurice. In October 2005 Margaret’s 400 page book “From the Bog to the Bishop” was another outstanding famous book covering 150 years history of the religious in Mahoonagh parish.
She was a leading member of Castlemahon History Group, where her loss will be greatly felt as she was an outstanding regular contributor to the parish annual. In her prime Margaret was an outstanding athlete coming from a great sporting Ballinska Doody family.
In 1968 she won the Munster ladies senior cross country and that same year was capped for Ireland in Irish Women’s cross country and was also a star camogie player.
Her funeral Mass took place on Tuesday, January 15 in Broadford Church at 12.30pm, across the road from Margaret’s house.
Our deepest sympathy to her son Daniel and his partner Ruca Leko and to all the Doody and Scully families, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.
