ADARE CAMOGIE: Congratulations to Sophie O’Callaghan and Danielle Grehan who were part of the Laurel Hill team which won the Junior All Ireland school Final last Saturday. What a wonderful achievement to have an All Ireland Medal in your back pocket, congratulations girls. Although our Dog ‘Royal Diva’ didn’t get a great run on Saturday night she managed to come 3rd and qualify for the Semi Final of the Con & Ann Kirby Memoral Stake. The club with the winning sponsored dog in this competition receives €10,000 with all six dogs making the final receiving substantial prize money. Please get behind our dog on Saturday night by going to the dogs in our club colours to shout on ‘Royal Diva’ .
LIMERICK WEST GIY: Limerick West GIY with the aim of inspiring people to grow their own food will hold its March meeting on this Thursday 21 at 7.00pm sharp in D&M Garden Centre, Croagh with new growers and old hands all welcome. This month’s talk will be given by Chris who will speak about cabbage and their versatility in that they can be harvested all year round by planting different varieties. If you love your greens this talk will be excellent for both the new grower and the experienced old hands. There will also be our first seed/plant swap of the season so please bring any unwanted seeds or excess plants and who knows you might just pick up that seed/plant you have been looking for. There is no need to bring anything if you don’t have spares and you can still take what you see during the swap.
ADARE LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL: Adare LGFC will be holding a church gate collection on the weekend of March 23 and 24. All funds raised go towards the promotion and development of Ladies Gaelic Football. Your support for the collection would be greatly appreciated. The Ladies Gaelic Football Season for 2013 has started and Adare is actively looking for players of all ages from Under 8 to Under 16 to join its ranks. Players are welcome from Adare and its surrounding areas (there is no requirement to live in the parish of Adare in order to play for Adare in Ladies Football). SCOIL NAOMH IOSAF: Scoil Naomh Iosaf will perform their show “The Lion King” in the Village Hall on Wed 20 and Thurs 21 March at 7.30pm. Congratulations to the Scoil Naomh Iosaf Table Tennis Teams who recently won the Gold and Bronze medals in the Limerick Community Games final. The Gold medal winning team will represent the county in the Munster finals to be held in Tralee on Easter Saturday.
ADARE CLOTH OF PAIN: During Lent, the Adare Parish Liturgy Committee want to put together a ‘Cloth of Pain’ representing the pain and hurt of parishioners and to bring it to Jesus on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We ask you to donate pieces of cloth (8-10inches sq. approx.) which will be made into a patchwork quilt. A basket will be left in front of the altar. There will be a special service on Friday 22 March in Holy Trinity Abbey Church based on the theme ‘The Seven Last Words’ of Jesus from the cross.
ADARE COMMUNITY COUNCIL COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICE: The Adare Community Council have now set up a Community Information Office based in the Village Hall. Opening hours at present are 10am to 4pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. ADARE PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP: Adare Mother and Toddler Group is held in the upstairs room in the Heritage Centre. They meet at 10.15 until 12.15. They would like to issue a special invitation to all parents of children from 0-5 to come and join us on Friday mornings especially Dads, childminders and grandparents minding children in the afore mentioned age group. If you are expecting your first baby and would like some advice and a chat please do come along. The cost is €3 per family and includes tea, coffee, biscuits and treats for the toddlers! There are a wide variety of artisan, homemade goods for sale which including Fresh Fruit and Vegetables, Home Baking, Handknits, Handmade Greeting Cards and Jewellery, Free Range Eggs, Homemade Jams (Seasonal), Handmade Crafts including an Alterations Service.
