ONE of Irish television’s biggest stars was in town last Thursday to launch Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Milford Care Centre.

Shortly after 11am, RTE’s Marty Whelan – co-presenter of popular TV game show Winning Streak – arrived to a raucous welcome from excited residents.

As Marty buzzed about the Centre – taking time to stop and talk to each patient – Milford Hospice carers were busy selling raffle tickets to everyone present.

The ‘big wheel’ was later spun and prizes claimed by lucky winners.

Patrick Bewley of Bewley’s said: “As in previous years, over a million cups of Bewley’s coffee will be served on this special day in September. The more cups of coffee that we can give away, the greater the benefit that will be achieved for hospices and communities all over Ireland.”

Ireland Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Hospice has been sponsored by Bewley’s for the last 18 years and is now firmly established as the major national fundraiser in aid of hospice care.

All funds raised locally stay locally and over €1.6 million was raised in 2010.

This event therefore gives people the opportunity to participate in a concerted effort to support their own local service.

Milford Care Centre is a voluntary, not for profit organisation and registered charity.

Hospice care involves the care where the focus has switched to treatment aimed at ensuring quality of life.
