TOP hotel spas in Limerick can prove vital in attracting more tourists to the region, Failte Ireland have said.

The tourism body recently hosted the national spa and wellness conference in Cork, to provide advice for hotels from industry experts on the best tips for trading in 2012.

Five of Limerick’s top hotels attended, including The Absolute Hotel; Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel; No 1 Pery Square Hotel and Spa; Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa Limerick; and Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel. These hotels were presented with a spa accreditation certificate, among 71 spa and wellness properties that are approved to Fáilte Ireland standards for 2011-2013.

Key research released by Fáilte Ireland shows that 104,000 overseas visitors visited a spa when on holiday in Ireland in 2010 with 43% of these visitors coming from Britain followed by mainland Europe at 27% and North America at 25%. “2011 has been a challenging year for the tourism industry, in particular the spa sector,” said Tony Lenehan, head of quality and standards at Failte Ireland. “It is our intention to continue working closely with the Industry in helping them to best position their product.”
