Braving the elements at ladies day in Ballybrit

The weather may have been miserable but the fashion was simply breathtaking at the Galway Races where I joined the winner of the Best Hat category Alex Butler from Cork; milliner Carol Kennelly, Killarney; winner of Anthony Ryans Best Dressed Lady competition Rachelle Guiry, Newcastle West; and winner of the Wear Irish award Aisling Maher, milliner.
IT MAY have been a day for raincoats, umbrellas and wellies but true to form, Ladies Day at the Galway Races served up some spectacular style!

I have been attending Ladies Day for more years than I can now remember and despite one of the worst days, weather-wise, all the ladies turned heads with their fabulous fashion.

Then, as the winners were announced, all I could hear was Limerick! The top prize of the day - the Anthony Ryan’s Best Dressed Lady prize which was valued at €12,000 went to Rachelle Guiry from Newcastle West, a make-up artist who has worked with the Holman Lee Agency over the years. The Wear Irish award also went to our own Aisling Maher from Castleconnell, a well-known milliner who runs a boutique in Adare. I have always believed that Limerick city and county are great for fashion and style and the double at the Galway Races just proved it again!
