A MAN remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in a car park outside a County Limerick pub at the weekend.
The assault took place outside a pub in Holycoss, Bruff around 11.30pm on Sunday night.
A man in his 30s who was arrested in connection with the serious assault has been released without charge.
The man was arrested on Tuesday in the Bruff area and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The victim, who is also in his thirties, remains in a critical but stable condition at University Hospital Limerick.
Gardai released a 36-year old man from custody on Wednesday morning and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
“There was a man arrested and he was released from custody this morning,” said Supt Alan Cunningham of Bruff garda station this Wednesday.
“A file is going to be sent to the DPP for direction on the matter,” he added.
Another individual was also questioned in relation to the incident.
The injured man was unconscious when admitted to the casualty department of University Hospital Limerick.
It is understood that the men had been socialising in the Bruff area before the incident.
