Horse Trainers: Great achievements in the horse racing scene continue to be recorded in the local area, Charles Byrnes, recently took the “Arkle Novice Chase” at Lepardstown, with his charge “Trifolium” ridden by Bryan cooper, While this latest success is recognised as an outstanding and tip drawer racing victory, it’s only one of the many fine results for the Granagh/Ballingarry trainer, we must congratulate our other neighbour in Howardstown Enda Bolger, who also continues to show his expertise in the cross country section of horse racing at home and overseas which also has brought home to his stable jockey’s and back again to our own parish the success of Billy Lee at Lee’s cross stables is truly savoured by all his horse racing supporter’s.

Traditional Promotions: Patrickswell Irish Music nights on the 1st Friday of each month at “The Dark Horse” venue 8pm will be open to Musicians, singers, dancers and storyteller of all ages.

Admission is free and the promotion of traditional entertainment is the main aim of the organisers local musician John Hayes and Patrickswell Businessman Fergus Kilcoyne along with John O’Riordan, Granagh who is encouraging West Limerick and the rest of the county’s general traditional entertainers to join them on the first Friday of each month “rambling house” New Series at the “Well” Venue “Dark House” New series at the “Well” venue “Dark Horse” FREE ENTERTAINMENT ON FRIDAY 7TH FEBRUARY 8PM is our next night.

Minister on hill of truth : The minister for “Arts, Culture & Gaeltacht, Mr Jimmy Deeeneham, paid an historic visit to Knockfierna “Hill of Truth” last Saturday afternoon to launch a local tourist guide of the “Famine Village” and the historic sited and memorials to “the Coleen Ban” Limerick Leader author / historian Mannix Joyce and the “Famine Monument” in memory of the local people who virtually gave their lives in the turbulent famine era so that their relations and parishioners would survive the future, Minister Mr Deenehan was totally impressed with the uniqueness of Knockfierna’s history and folklore and complimented Pat O’Donovan and his groups of volunteer’s from 1989 to the present time for the progress made and also the workers on the F.A.S schemes from restoring the “Famine village “present at the Brochure launch also were chairman of Limerick County Council John Sheehan, Patrick O’Donovan T.D Rose Brennan, M,C,C Patrick C, Fitzgerald, M,C,C S. Kearney M,C,C Liam Galvin M,C,C and other colleagues from the Co. Council entertainment was contributed by a Co. Kerry youth traditional group John O’Donoghue, John O’Riordan singers Ella Marie O ’Dwyer, Tommy O’Riordan photographers represented the Limerick Leader and the Kerry man and local papers.

Sympathy : Sincere sympathy to the family of the late Damian Scanlon R.I.P Knockaderry also to the Moran and Irwin families on their recent bereavements in the Ballingarry areas, to the relations and many friends of the late Bridget Bond R.I.P Connelly Terrace, Newcastle west who was called to her eternal reward last week.

Bridget Bond R.I.P will be remembered for her generous years of support to traditional music events, concerts, rambling houses and dances all over west Limerick, was originally from Shanagolden.

May they rest in Eternal Peace.

Sympathy:Deepest sympathy is extended to the family, relations and all Gaelic Game’s followers on the recent tragic death of the late Shane Hourignan R.I.P Rathkeale.

The late Shane (44) was a very popular member of the local St. Mary’s/Sean Finns club and also of the Munster /National referee’s panels.

We join with his relations and many G.A.A friends all over Munster to convey our sincere sympathy to his wife Marie, Son Shane, Mother Helen, Brothers and Sisters.

Sincere sympathy to the family, relations and friends of the late Mrs Rita Lynch R.I.P Caemore Court Croom, Formerly of Ballintaw, Banogue and wife of the late Willie Lynch R.I.P

Her large and very representative funeral was to Banogue Cemetery after concelebrated requiem mass in St. Mary’s Church with very Rev. Fr Joe Kennedy PP and Rev Fr. Eamon O’Brein C.C in attendance.

May she rest in peace.
