LOLLIPOP VOLUNTEERS: The oesophageal Cancer Fund (O.C.F.) is calling for volunteers in Limerick to help with their Lollipop Day fundraising campaign on February 28 and March 1. Lollipop Day involves selling lollipops at €2 in an effort to raise vital funds for oesophageal cancer. HOPE FOUNDATION: The above foundation is a registered Irish charity working with street children in Calcutta India and are holding a used clothing collection drive this Wednesday February 5 in Newcastle West outside the Community Centre and in Castlemahon church car park from 8am to 12 noon. Please leave as many bags as you can at the collection point. The following items are welcome clean dry clothes, shoes/ tied pairs, handbags, belts, bed linen, curtains and towels. CEILI: The next monthly ceili at Halla Tadhg Gaelach in Tournafulla will take place on Friday February 14. A nice treat for Valentines night with Striolan Ceili band on stage. Dancing from 9:30pm to 1am with light refreshments for all. All are welcome to waltz along and enjoy Valentine’s night.

CHURCH AFFAIRS: The mass server for St Ita’s church Ashford to commence his week this coming Sunday is T.J. Kelly Ballagh. The reader for Ashford mass this Saturday evening is Trish McEnery Noonan with Eucharistic Ministers Maura Kenny and Willie Mulcahy and basket collector Michael Manley.

The reader for Raheenagh Mass this Sunday morning is Michael Cunningham with Eucharistic Ministers Margaret Keating and Noreen Collins and basket collector Niall Scanlan.

CEOL AN GHEIMHRIDH: The Munster finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh is scheduled to take place in Hazelwood College Dromcollogher on Sunday February 16th with the local Comhaltas hosting the event. As is the schedule the qualifiers from Munster counties will compete against each other in music song, dance and story telling. The best of luck to all entrants.

AM LE CHEILE: Maura Aherne Nolan has launched a C.D. ‘Am le Cheile Time Together’ a 13 track of music and song from by gone days. Many of the songs were gifted to Maura via her musical engagements with the residents of St Itas Community Hospital and St Gobnait’s Nursing Home in Ballyagran. The C.D. is on sale at the above venues at a cost of €15 with a percentage of the sales being generously donated to the Friend’s of St Ita’s.

WEST LIMERICK SET DANCING CLUB: The annual workshop weekend of the West Limerick Set Dancing Club will take place this weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine. The weekend gets under way on Friday night at 9pm with a ceili to the music of the Johnny Reidy Ceili Band. The set dancing workshops take place on Saturday morning with Maureen Culleton, commencing at 10am until 5pm. The Saturday night ceili will start at 9pm and the Striolan Ceili Band will supply the music.

Maureen resumes her workshop on Sunday morning at 11am. Taylor’s Cross Ceili Band will play for the Sunday afternoon ceili, commencing at 2pm.

VALENTINES BALL: A Valentines Ball will be held at The Woodlands House Hotel on Friday February 21. Events will be held as normal with music in the hotel foyer followed by a four course meal with complimentary wine. Music for the evening will be by Limerick band Final Touch followed by disco by DJB. A raffle will be held on the tickets for a weekend hotel break and numerous other prizes. Tickets go on sale for €50. All proceeds on the night to go to Milford Hospice and Pieta House.
